7DY-DVD-101 - Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx: 5000 years of history.Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra's spell. Cairo is Africa's largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and tomb of Tutankamun.Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world's largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53,000 square metres - the height of a fifty storey skyscraper. In the middle of today's modern city of Luxor, known as the 'Capital City Of The Pharaohs', the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile and, not far away, the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple.67 kilometres from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple Of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, and archaeological paradise.

7DY-DVD-105 - Arizona, land of cowboys and Indians and Wild West towns plus, among its many natural wonders, the all pervasive colour red as displayed by the awe-inspiring rock formations of its mighty canyons. A thousand years ago the highly-cultured Anasazi and Hohokam Indians lived here, planting maize and vegetables in the meagre valleys and building walled towns into the cliffs of the canyons. They used the natural environment, protected caves in natural rock walls, which were accessible only by simple wooden ladders. For the past century, scientists from all over the world have investigated evidence that a gigantic meteorite crashed here, leaving behind it a huge crater: Meteor Crater. As the central and inner walls of the crater are similar to the landscape of the moon, preparation and training for the APOLLO space missions took place here. Located in North West Arizona is the 378 square kilometre National Park known as the 'Petrified Forest' with a surrounding desert which shimmers in all the colours of the rainbow. There's the Agate Bridge, a huge fossilised tree trunk which spans twelve metres wide across a gorge and the amazingly beautiful Canyon De Chelly. Situated in the Navajo Indian Reservation, the Betatakin Ruins are the remains of historical dwellings which were carved into the rock by their original inhabitants from the 13th Century B.C.Wild West fans instantly recognise Monument Valley where, between colossal, 300 metre tall monoliths and sky-high rocky needles, John Wayne and countless other screen heroes fought off Indians and battled with 'baddies'. A natural sculpture formed from undulating waves of stone, Antelope Canyon is a palette of colour which teases the eye. From the surface, a gaping crevice is the only means of access, tempting the curious to enter. In bold contrast, the Grand Canyon is 1,600 metres deep and 16 kilometres long, the most colossal gorge in the world. The sight of this gigantic natural wonder is the exciting climax of any trip to the magnificent and majestic land of Arizona.

7DY-DVD-108 - Florence is the capital of Tuscany and at the end of the 14th Century was ruled by a few leading families who not only financed churches but also competed in building magnificent palaces. Of these, the Medici family proved to be the most powerful. It is a city of art and joie de vivre and past home of important artists and sculptors such as Donatello, Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci, plus the writers Dante and Boccaccio, not to mention the scientist, Galileo Galilei. The most modern of the Tuscany spas was built in the valley below Montecatini Alto which can be reached on a rack-railway which climbs to the top of the mountain through orchards and fields. Lucca, one of Tuscany's most important historical towns, rises from the lower reaches of the Serchio river, on a former swamp. Dating from the Middle Ages, it is surrounded by a massive brick wall which helped the town retain its independence and also protected it from the floodwaters of the Serchio. The precarious imperfection of the Leaning Tower of Pisa is in stark contrast to the grandiose palaces and religious buildings of the Medici family and the natural contours of the hills. The Cathedral, Bapisterium and Campanile form a unique, grandiose harmony and display the liberal mindedness of those who were in power during their construction. Olive groves and vineyards line the gentle hilly landscape around the picturesque, Vinci. The birthplace of Leonardo is a simple farmhouse above the square in which only a modest bust portrays this universal genius. Surrounded by the cities of Florence, Siena, and Pisa, Certaldo is a Middle Age village built of red brick and was the birthplace of the author, Giovanni Boccaccio. The heart of Tuscany lies around the provincial capital of Siena, a Gothic city of great artistry. The entire structure, its squares and streets, most of the residential quarterand noble palaces, the cathedral and the church, date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. History and culture combined with the beauty of nature...Tuscany has it all!

7DY-DVD-110 - The Hawaiian Islands are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and form the 50th state of the USA. In the south east of the island of O'Ahu, Honolulu is a modern town and the starting point for most journeys. It also contains the Iolani Palace - once the residence of King David Kalakana -a magnificent Victorian structure in the centre of Honolulu and the only royal palace in the United States. In Pearl Harbour, a museum commemorates the events of the seventh of December 1941 when most of the American Pacific fleet was destroyed by the Japanese. The valley of Nuuanu Pali is of great importance in Hawaiian history. It was here that a deciding battle took place, when King Kamehameh came from Maui and triumphantly drove the troops of the chief of Oahu into the mountains, the result of which formed the political union of the Hawaiian Islands. In winter, the world's best surfers collect on Sunset Beach, attracted by spectacular waves, some of which reach as high as the tallest church steeples. On the island of Kaua'i, the Wailua is Hawaii's only navigable river and it flows through some of the exciting locations which were used for Jurassic Park, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Blue Hawaii. Two volcanoes dominate the extraordinary island of Maui, which also features sandy beaches, green pastures, dense jungle and a bleak lunar-like landscape. On Waimea Beach in 1778, the English sea captain, James Cook, was the first European to set foot on Hawaiian territory. The Waimea Canyon was referred to by Mark Twain as 'The Grand Canyon of the Pacific', a massive gorge which has been carved out of the volcanic landscape by the Waimea River. From a Victorian style station there is the narrow-gauge Sugar Cane Train which travels through the once prolific sugar plantations of Kaanapali.Haleakale is the world's largest dormant volcano with a crater as large as Manhattan. But nowhere else in the world can volcanoes be studied as safely as on Big Island in the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park The Hawaiian Islands...priceless pearls in the Pacific Ocean.

During Roman times, thousands of slaves were forced to bring building material for Carthage and El Djem from subterranean shafts. In Sousse, the simple fort of Ribat is probably the oldest Islamic building in North Africa, in which Muslim soldiers lived in monastery-like isolation and in the town's Archaeological Museum there is a fantastic range of mosaics, predominantly from Punic and Roman excavations. Gabes is an oasis town which overflows with luxuriant floral splendour. By horse and carriage visitors can travel through one of the most beautiful maritime oases in Tunisia where, under 500,000 date palms, tobacco, henna, pumpkins, apricots and bananas thrive. The focal point of important caravan routes and trading centre for goods from Libya and Black Africa, Medenine is a very charming and lively city. Its reinforced honeycomb-shaped caves were the extraordinary-looking buildings that many will recall from the film 'Star Wars'.The Sahara is the largest desert on earth, with different landscapes such as rock deserts, salt deserts and serene oases. Kebili is located on the edge of a huge salt lake and is a typical desert village with a green oasis and Artesian springs which provide water for its fruit and vegetable gardens. Nefta is also a green paradise in the desert, an oasis town that boasts no less than 152 Artesian wells. Dougga contains Tunisia's most important ruins which nestle in the hills among shimmering olive trees and poppy fields. 7DY-DVD-117 - The city of Plymouth is the beginning of a journey through the north eastern region of America, New England, which is where the first European settlers landed in the 17th century after stepping off the Mayflower. The 'Plimouth Plantation' is a reconstruction of the Pilgrim Fathers' original settlement, with 'settlers' in original costume going about their daily routine. In the centre of Boston, Copley Square features the Trinity Church which contrasts with the modern Hancock Tower that dominates the skyline and Park Street Church was where, in 1829, William Garrison gave his first anti-slavery speech. In the adjacent Granary Burial Ground some of America's most famous sons are buried, such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. Portsmouth is a quaint little harbour town at the mouth of the Piscataqua River in which the fishing harbour still plays an important role and pretty brick houses are gems of colonial architecture that remain untainted by tourism. Brunswick is a deceptively small town situated at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The main attraction of this 270 year old town is Bowdoin College in which theologian Calvin Stowe taught, husband of Harriet Beecher Stowe who wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. The fishing town of Rockland is one of the largest exporters of lobster in the USA. There's nowhere better to enjoy fresher, tastier and more varied seafood than on this part of the coast. Indeed, three quarters of American lobsters and other fish are prepared here. Established in 1919, Acadia National Park extends across most of Mount Desert Island and it was private individuals, particularly the billionaire John Rockefeller, who gifted this land to the State. It is now a collection ofconservation areas that assures the preservation of this unique East Coast combination of lakes and mountains. New England is the traditional face of the United States...and the heart of America's past.

7DY-DVD-121 - Marseille is the oldest city in France, the country's largest commercial harbour and the capital of Provence, an enchanting region full of contrast. The most impressive religious building in Marseille is a fortified monastery church that dates back to the fifth century, the mighty Abbaye Saint Victor. Deep down in the rock is an Early Christian crypt and a number of stone sarcophaguses that contain the remains of various holy martyrs that date back to the Roman persecution of the Christians. Aix-En-Provence, along with its numerous lanes, is one of the most beautiful cities in France. More than forty spectacular fountains help to cool down this ancient town in the hot months of summer when both foreign and French tourists visit the city. 'Sur Le Pont D'Avignon' are the words of the world famous French song that is familiar to both young and old alike. It is a song of dance on the bridge of the Pont Saint Bénézet but it is more likely that the people here once danced under the bridge as that is the location of its bars! For almost two thousand years an imposing Roman amphitheatre has dominated the city of Nîmes. It is the capital of the Departement Gard that is situated on the periphery of Provence. One of the most well preserved mediaeval fortifications in Europe surrounds the small town of Aigues-Mortes along the western periphery of the Camargue in the south of France. The town was established in 1240. From the city wall that is eleven metres high and six metres thick, there is a wonderful view across the rooftops of the impregnable city. With historic towns in which both the Romans and the Papacy felt at home, and with blossoming fields of lavender and ancient mountain villages, Provence is a land of sweet aromas and radiant light.
