Music: Rien de Rien -Edith Piaff, Funiculi Funicula -Luciano Pavarotti, Bizet's Carmen -Waldo de los Rios. Dad loved all these great pieces of music. Ten years ago, we embarked on a journey that would change our lives and our relationship. My father and I bonded man to man for the first time rather than as father and son. Three weeks on the road in a beat-up truck with incredible scenery around every curve, the midnight sun that never went down... Crossing the Arctic Circle on the Dempster Highway was the high point of the trip for me, and ever since that trip both me and my father remembered it as the trip of a lifetime, and the best trip that either of us had ever been on. In later years, I asked him if he'd like to do it again, and his enthusiasm seemed to be declining every time I brought it up. I think it was 2003 when I asked again. He said he'd need to fly into Whitehorse because he didn't want to drive all the way through BC again. By last year he just wasn't into it at all anymore. This year, and on this day I cherish the memories... I will take that trip again someday, but it just won't be the same with dear ol' DAd...Yukon

TVI-DVD-ROM - Roma The Eternal CityAll ways lead to Rome as people used to say, many years before Christ. The modern metropolis has become used to the flood of tourists and pilgrims from all over the world. Our mosaic starts at Piazza Venezia with its marble monument to king Emanuel II called the "Wedding cake". The Forum, Palatine, Aventine, Capitol form together with the Coliseum the core of the ancient city. The baroque period is represented by Piazza Navona and Fontana di Trevi. We will visit St Peter's basilica and the Vatican museums and the most beautiful churches too, like San Giovanni in Laterano and Santa Maria Maggiore. Rome is the only city hosting an entire sovereign state-the Vatican. Castel Sant' Angelo, Janiculum hill and the ancient quarter of Trastevere are our next stops. Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo, the famous Spanish steps and many other city seclusions form a mixture one cannot see elsewhere. The everlasting city had its own water supply system as early as in 2nd BC;feeding also the giant Baths of Caracalla. Finally the Via Appia Antica will lead us to the catacombs and to the ancient port of Ostia. All this is Rome.

NPM-DVD-138 - Around five kilometres beyond the city of Bharatpur is one of the most fascinating wildlife reserves on the Indian subcontinent, Keoladeo Ghana. Accompanied by the park's experienced guides, the first leg of our journey travels across a well-worn route to Python Point that, due to its population of Tiger Pythons, most assuredly lives up to its name. Despite the picturesque landscape the local maharajas were more interested in the region's wildlife, especially the population of wild duck In the middle of the 19th century the maharajahs recognized the merits of this newly created habitat and officially declared it to be their very own hunting grounds. Unlike today, the numerous water birds of Keoladeo Ghana were not protected but instead were hunted for sport. The park's varied scenery is quite remarkable. Low-lying forests, shrubberies, swampland and savannah-like grasslands influence the external appearance of this fascinating nature reserve. In the north east of the park the dry forests consist mainly of the babul tree, a unique variety of acacia tree, and rose apple. For many visitors the remoteness of the park is in stark contrast to life in India's lively, noisy and hectic cities. However, this world famous bird sanctuary is located close to civilization and also to a good network of roads. Yet motor vehicles are few and far between in Keoladeo Ghana where the bicycle rickshaw is the most common means of transport. Few bird sanctuaries in the world provide visitors with such a variety of bio-diversity and scenic beauty as does the Keoladeo National Park.

GTR-DVD-1201 - Fifteen kilometres south of Delhi is one of the most important Islamic monuments in India, the Qutb Minar Complex. A mosque is all that remains of the legendary city of Lal Kot, a city from where Islamic rule spread throughout northern India. The city dates back to 1193 A.D., the year when Muslim invaders first settled on the Indian subcontinent. The development of Lal Kot and the construction of Qutb Minar toward the end of the 12th century accelerated the spread of Islam. The founder of Delhi's first city was Qutb-Du-Din-Aibak who was made governor of the city by the Afghan conqueror, Mohammed Of Ghur. Above the ruins of the Hindu temples that had been incorporated into the architecture, Qurwat-Ul-Islam evolved, a mosque known as The Might Of Islam. The remnants of no less than twenty seven destroyed Hindu and Jain sacred buildings were used in the construction of the first mosque on Indian soil. Until quite recently the tall victory tower that was probably inspired by a similar structure in Afghanistan, was open to the public. However, due to a tragic accident within the tower the authorities have since closed it to the public. Nevertheless, Qutb Minar provides a fascinating and atmospheric insight into the early years of Muslim sovereignty in India. Global Treasures - History's Most Protected Monuments - Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live today, and what we pass on to future generations. our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. GTR-DVD-1164 - In the history of Nepal the small Newar town of Kirtipur is unique. Even though the founding of the town dates back to the 12th century and the time of King Shivadev its true origin is probably far older as discoveries that date back to the Pre-Lichchavi epoch indicate that it could be one of the oldest settlements in the entire Kathmandu Valley. In the course of time, and particularly under the reign of the Malla Kings, Kirtipur developed into a small independent town with several beautiful temples and sanctuaries. The design of today's Buddhist Chilandeo Stupa dates back to the 16th century but the original building is attributed to the Indian King, ASHOKA. Under the reign of this legendary leader in the third century A.D., Buddhism began to spread across the length and breadth of the Indian subcontinent. The many years of Kirtipur's independence came to an end in 1482 when the town's inhabitants reluctantly came under the rule of the nearby city of Patan. Today the town of almost fifteen thousand inhabitants is divided into two areas. The eastern section is predominantly inhabited by Buddhists while the upper part of the town consists mainly of Hindus. However, both areas of the town are united by an idyllic rural atmosphere. Due to the declining economic situation in Kirtipur the town's cultural monuments appear to represent the last ray of hope for its inhabitants and a much needed possible source of future income. GTR-DVD-1144 - The streets of Deopatan, east of the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu, are usually crowded with pilgrims who are travelling to the most important Hindu sanctuary in the country. The old temple district of Pashupatinath, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, even attracts pilgrims from India. Shivaratri, one special night in the year that is dedicated to Shiva, is the most important celebration within the temple district. In springtime thousands of Hindu pilgrims travel to Nepal. The Bagmati River and this entire area along with its sacred buildings are still one of the most important Shiva sanctuaries on the Indian Subcontinent.
