VPG-DVD-161 - SAN DIEGO For some, San Diego - a coastal city with a wonderful climate - is California's southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. It is not quite as predictable as other US metropolises and even the skyline promises something different. Palm trees, colourful flowerbeds and wonderful sandy beaches are typical of Southern California and are an open invitation to surfing and relaxation. The exclusivity of the beaches exudes an aura of luxurious living and the grand houses of the Coronado district are among the city's most prestigious. The long distance trains that travel through Amtrak Station connect San Diego with many other Californian cities and also with the bordering city of Santa Fe. The red tram, known as the San Diego Trolley, leaves from here and travels south to the Mexican border. Everywhere there are blossoming flowers and spouting fountains and the magnificence of this colourful garden city makes it easy to forget the arid terrain of the nearby desert. There's also Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. With its many attractions and close proximity to Mexico, San Diego is an unforgettable city that's a very special kind of tourist metropolis!

GTR-DVD-1167 - The beautiful main facade of the Cathedral Santiago De Compostela rises proudly into the sky, the final destination of a legendary medieval pilgrimage route. For more than twelve hundred years the marvellous buildings of the old town, as well as the striking cathedral, have attracted visitors from all over the world. During the Middle Ages the town enjoyed great prominence. In addition to Jerusalem and Rome, Santiago De Compostela was the third most important Christian pilgrimage destination. Its beautiful main facade combines various decorative and architectural elements that are to be found along the pilgrims' way, the Camino de Santiago. In addition to the imposing cathedral there are further treasures hidden within the historical centre of the town such as the 16th century Colegio De Fonseca. Under the rule of Bishop Diego Xelmírez both the town and its Catholic church enjoyed much prosperity and the diocese became an archbishopric. Unlike the architectural transformation of its external façade most of the cathedral's interior has retained its original form. The church's main nave and altar, with its precious and exquisite decoration, are a remarkable religious work of art. Santiago De Compostela: even today the town has retained all of its magic, its cultural appeal and deep religious significance. 7DY-DVD-161 - Colorado is situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a land of remote valleys and high mountains. The 16th Street Mall is the city's pride and a splendid avenue that boasts the longest pedestrianised area in the USA plus a free bus service! It contains several shopping malls, restaurants and all kinds of shops with products from all over the world. The shining red rocks on the outskirts of Colorado Springs are a striking spectacle within the Garden Of The Gods. The huge red sandstone rock formations rise to a height of up to a hundred and fifty metres. The natural monuments are a reminder of the geological past of this extraordinary region situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains Directly next to the caves at the foot of Pike's Peak are the caves in which the Anasazi Indians once lived, the famous Cliff Dwellings where one can gain a fascinating insight into the culture of the native inhabitants of North America, how they lived, their culture and beliefs. The Indian Museum features Indian culture and work tools and is an impressive record of a long forgotten time and a people that almost became extinct. 7DY-DVD-152 - For some, San Diego - a coastal city with a wonderful climate - is California's southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. This is where we begin our tour of California, the most populated state in the USA, the Promised Land! The red tram, known as the San Diego Trolley, leaves Amtrak Station and travels south to Seaport Village on the Mexican border while north of San Diego is Joshua Tree Park, a huge nature reserve that is located between the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The Mormons who came to this region during their search for the 'Promised Land' gave the Joshua Tree its name as it reminded them of the holy prophet of the same name. Las Vegas appears like a mirage in the desert, awake night and day, THE entertainment capital of the world! Guarded by a sphinx that stretches its paws out toward the Strip, a pyramid looms above the desert paradise, the Luxor Hotel, one of many theme hotels in this incredible city. The MGM lion guards one of the largest hotels in the world with over five thousand rooms, whereas the Bellagio is a return to the exclusive nature of the casino hotels of the past: here, luxury is at its zenith - an investment of 1,8 billion dollars speaks for itself! Only two and a half hours by car to the west of Las Vegas is the USA's most recent national park that extends to the opposite side of California's border, Death Valley! It was through here that thousands of pioneers took a short cut while journeying west, many of them perishing in the attempt. The Yosemite National Park is a near-impenetrable landscape full of huge granite mountains over the steep slopes of which torrents of roaring water plunge a thousand metres into the valleys of the last Ice Age. Los Angeles is synonymous with Hollywood, and Beverly Hills, a perfect product of the American Dream, is its famous suburb with neat parks and blossoming flower beds. There's also the Sidewalk Of Fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre and Rodeo Drive, the most exclusive shopping mile in the world. And of course there's San Francisco, a city that's under constant threat of destruction by earthquake. Perhaps that's why 'Frisco exudes a strong sense of well-being that has become known as 'That California Feelin.!'
