VPG-DVD-128 - PORTO Situated in the north of Portugal, Porto is a cultural capital of Europe and birthplace of the nation. The Torre Dos Clerigos is the symbol of the city and was built in the middle of the 18th century on a rock at the city's most elevated point. Two hundred and twenty five steps lead to a stunning view across the picturesque old harbour town and its carpet of red rooftops that nestle against the city's hills. Porto has one of the most beautiful markets in Europe that contains a large inner courtyard completely encircled by arcades. The narrow, deep river valley of the Douro is spanned by five bridges of which the most impressive is the Ponte Dom Louis. The Frenchman, Gustave Eiffel, constructed the gigantic two level bridge that connects Porto with its sister town, Vila Nova De Gaia. Five bridges connect the banks of the River Douro and two of them are monuments that date back to the Industrial Revolution. The river has always been the city's lifeline and a trading route to the whole world. The entire river valley was designated as a vine growing area because it is where the world famous port wine is grown. With all of its picturesque districts including its Baroque splendour and the palatial houses of its elite, Porto has well and truly survived the march of time.

VPG-DVD-132 - PARIS Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. First established by the Celts, next used strategically by the Romans, then it served the extravagant lifestyle of the Sun King, Louis the Fourteenth until it became a hotbed of Revolution. Les Champs Elysees is surely one of the most beautiful avenues in the world. With wide boulevards, shady corners, ambient street cafes and classic Parisian buildings that are decorated with flowers. Since 1873, the Palais De L`Elysee has been the residence of the French President. At the beginning of the 17th century, Madame De Pompadour lived there and during the Revolution the liberated people cavorted in its luxurious rooms. Through a small triumphal arch decorated with scenes of Napoleon's victorious army, there is the garden created by Leotre, the Jardin Des Tuileries. A bridge and a fountain are the focal points of this popular park created in typical French style. A modern glass pyramid and a fountain decorate the courtyard of the former Louvre Palace, which since the time of the Revolution has been transformed into a museum that contains the famous Louvre art gallery. Its collection of remarkable historic treasures and superb art collection make it one of the world's most famous museums. with Leonardo Da Vinci´s masterpiece, the Mona Lisa, taking pride of place. Situated on a small island on the River Seine is the Cathedral Of Notre Dame, the 'Mother Church Of The Nation'. Built on the foundations of a Roman temple and commissioned by the bishops Maurice and Eudes De Sully, it took almost 200 years to build this Gothic masterpiece. Built at the end of the 19th century as a symbol of national revival, Montmartre's Sacre Coeur has the appearance of a white, fairy-tale palace with 237 steps that lead up to the main entrance of this extraordinary structure. Its Byzantine architecture and five cupolas are reminiscent of the Marcus Dome in Venice. Of course, there are the dizzy heights of the Eiffel Tower and a great deal more. Paris is a wonderful festival of the senses!

MTW-DVD-102 - Situated in New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty has become the proud symbol of the United States of America. The statue of the Goddess of Freedom carries the light of the spirit of enlightenment to the Free World. Alexander Gustave Eiffel, whose tower later made him famous, built the statue's ingenious iron frame construction supported by a central shaft. Around this framework a 2.4 millimetre thick copper coating was attached to the statue and it is mainly due to Eiffel's frame that the monument has withstood the bay's savage winter storms. On the 28th October 1886, North America's most important statue was inaugurated by President Grover Cleveland. The statue was the design of a young sculptor, Bartholdi, who had eagerly accepted the work due to the fact that the commission of his design of a large female statue for a lighthouse on the Suez Canal had not reached fruition. At first, the statue received little love and affection. Indeed, New Yorkers used the statue's unveiling ceremony for a protest demonstration! Since then, however, it has most assuredly conquered the hearts of those who have seen it and it has become a symbol of freedom for the whole of America.

MTW-DVD-107 - A frenetic neon mirage in the desert: that's the Las Vegas Strip! A pyramid looms up from this desert haven, guarded by a sphinx. An excursion in ancient Egypt? No, it's the Luxor Hotel, one of the many magnificent illusions in this amazing city. Behind the façade of a medieval castle, the Excalibur Resort contains more than 4000 rooms in a mind-boggling blend of the Arthurian legend and spectacular kitsch. The casino is entered via the Brooklyn Bridge and with an intense screeching and whirling a double loop roller coaster winds its way over the heads of spectators and through the residential quarters of New York. The Venetian is a superlative hotel and with its 6,600 spacious suites it is the largest hotel in the world. The rooms are furnished according to Venetian tradition and original paintings decorate the ceilings. In the Eiffel Tower there's a gourmet restaurant with a fabulous view over the Strip plus a section of the Paris Opera House and next to it a magnificent replica of the Arc De Triomphe. This flashing galaxy of multi-coloured neon soon makes one forget the dusty rocky desert landscape which surrounds this fascinating city which is synonymous with entertainment, amusement and just about every dollar dream that is waiting to be turned into reality!

7DY-DVD-113 - In the south of the country, the Algarve is the mainstay of Portuguese tourism with golden sandy beaches, bright red rocky coasts and a profusion of castles built by the Christian kings during the Moorish Wars.Faro is the capital of the Algarve and today its huge old city wall indicates its past importance. Close to the Baroque cathedral, the attractive centre of the old town has been well preserved and indicates the town's historic and dazzling past.Lisbon is the heart of Portugal and is located on the massive Tejo Bay. The Marques De Pombal rebuilt the city after it experienced the most devastating earthquake ever to hit a European town when only the plain, pointed arches of the Carmo Monastery's distinctive roof withstood the catastrophic earthquake. Baixa is the name of the lower city from which a lift ascends to the heights of Bairro Alto from where there are amazing views across the rooftops of the old town of Alfama. 'Electricos' are Lisbon's quaint and unique trams which squeak and roar through the old town, travelling along the narrow streets and up and down the hills. The Torre De Belem once guarded the approaches to Lisbon's harbour. Shimmering white like a fantastic mirage, the city's most famous landmark is located on the shores of the Tejo. It was from here that ships crews were bid farewell as they set out on their long voyages of discovery. The town of Sintra is situated on a forest slope on the Sierra De Sintra. Its mild climate and proximity to the capital city led the kings of Portugal to build their summer palaces here and there is an abundance of grand residences and palaces each surrounded by beautiful gardens and tropical plants. Located atop a tall rock is the Palacio Da Pena, a pseudo-fantasy castle which dates from the Middle Ages. The long bridge over the River Douro was built by Gustave Eiffel and is in the form of a huge arch constructed solely of iron and from which, on two levels, it connects the town of Porto with Vila Nova De Gaia.Portugal is a country of churches and cathedrals, massive fortresses, magnificent castles and prosperous towns. The sunshine and glorious coastline are mere bonuses!
