TMT-DVD-111 - MYSTIC VENICE The historic lagoon city of Venice stands on several islands joined together by a multitude of bridges and a canal system in place of streets. The palaces that lie along the Grand Canal represent Venetian power and influence over the centuries. Gothic building artistry and Baroque affluence meet head-on in this grand and noble city that overflows with nostalgia. It is during the winter months that Venice is particularly fascinating, when carnival masks blend perfectly with the architecture of the lagoon city as though on a magnificent stage which has been created by an ingenious set designer. Everything is play, disguise and admiration. Masks are closely associated with the city's history and were first mentioned in a law which was passed in 1268. As in earlier times, St. Marks Square is the centre of today's carnival. Under the five domes of St. Marks Cathedral, a colourful spectacle develops when masked forms stroll under the arches and arcades of the city's grand buildings. The Carnival is a unique catwalk on which vanity can be unashamedly displayed. Where just a simple cardboard mask is not good enough and where the inspiration for dressing up, disguise and enchantment is essential. Here, everyone is a performer looking for the admiration of the crowd. At carnival time only a lack of imagination is forbidden. Nowhere else do mystique and majesty come together to create such atmospheric and harmonious forms as here in this legendary and intriguing lagoon city.

EXT-DVD-13 - BURJ AL ARAB Dubai, once a pirate coast, today a high-tech city of Bedouin flair, its old dwellings, narrow winding streets and Al Fahidi Fort providing an atmospheric insight to its historic past. In the souks there is much haggling and noise and from tightly packed bags of spices the aroma of cardamom, cinnamon and cloves fills the air. This is a city of many contrasts with old wooden dhows anchoring in front of futuristic skyscrapers made of chrome and glass. The new symbol of the Emirates, the Burj Al Arab is an arabian tower that extends high into the sky, the only seven star hotel in the world built upon its own artificial island in the Persian Gulf. The hotel's exterior is shaped like a gigantic sail bent by the wind, a wonder of hotel design that is without equal. The sound of water fountains mingles with Arabian melodies and combines to produce an almost meditative ambience while dry ice silently emits mystique and enchantment. Expensive mosaics vie with mirror smooth surfaces and imaginative combinations of colour. This exclusive hotel is mainly frequented by clientele from the oil-rich Gulf States and its long list of V.I.P. guests is no surprise especially when considering that a night's stay costs between 1,500 and 10,000 dollars! The Al Muntaha Restaurant towers 200 metres above the Arabian Gulf and is reached by an express lift made of entirely of glass, its tables offering the finest Mediterranean cuisine as well as outstanding panoramic views. This new symbol of Dubai, the Burj Al Arab, is a truly unique and exceptional world-class luxury hotel of the highest order.

7DY-DVD-130 - Although Greece is the home of ancient gods, birthplace of European civilisation and a country of great warriors and philosophers it is also a country of many islands with tiny villages and white houses, a deep blue sea and almost constant sunshine. Athens is a lively city set in historic surroundings. Unique among all other Greek temples is the Acropolis whose imposing appearance and artistic decoration signified the great influence and power of ancient Athens. Six female figures, the Karyatides, support the southern hall of the Ionic Temple of Erechtheion that stands on sacred ground close to the main temple. The imposing Mitrópolis is the main Greek Orthodox cathedral in Athens. A total of four architects designed this cathedral whose walls comprise the remains of no less than seventy former sacred buildings. The Cyclades Islands are situated in the middle of the Southern Aegean that like a magic circle flows around its former centre, the sacred island of Delos, Mykonos. For centuries this picturesque former pirate village in the middle of Cyclades group of islands has been the meeting place for artists, V.I.P.'s and the international glitterati. The Cyclades are also known as The Pearls Of Greece and it seems as though the gods have scattered a handful of beautiful pearls into the deep blue Aegean Sea. In ancient times they were also known as The Islands Of Light because Apollo, the God of Light and Learning, was born here and also worshipped on the islands. Santorini is the most southerly of the Cyclades Islands and the legendary location of the mythical lost island of Atlantis and also a breathtaking island paradise of rock, lava, sea and light. Crete is the 'Island Of Light' and the birthplace of Zeus. Heraklion is the capital of the largest and most southerly of the Greek islands on which a highly developed culture has existed for four thousand years. It's no wonder that in these magnificent islands in the Aegean numerous gods, knights and tourists have always found much good fortune and enchantment!
