WTF-DVD-ERIE - "The Erie Canal"... a ditch that opened the nation! Filmed and produced by Fran & Brooke Reidelberger Scripted and narrated by Fran Reidelberger Thomas Jefferson called plans to build it "little short of madness". James Madison said it was "impractical at best". "It" is the Erie Canal in New York State: An engineering marvel in 1825, an economic juggernaut throughout the 19th Century, an increasingly popular recreational delight today. In this all new digital video production, filmmakers Fran and Brooke Reidelberger travel the canal system from Albany to Buffalo, sailing in the wake of history, enjoying the tranquil beauty, attending the festivals, visiting the old canal towns, and wondering what our country would be like if the canal had never been built. Aboard "Chicane", a 65 foot power boat, you will experience the canal and:· Take a whirlwind tour of Albany, New York state's bustling capital city. Visit "Uncle Sam's" grave and our nation's first school of engineering in Troy.· "Climb" the Waterford Five, the world's highest series of high lift locks. The lift is 169 feet.· Explore the Herkimer "diamond mine" and find your own 500 million-year-old crystals with a diamond-like shape and sparkle.· Sample real beer and root beer at F.X. Matt Brewery, New York's oldest, in Utica.· Watch and listen as school children about American Revolutionary War history at Ft. Stanwix in Rome.· Tour Rome where digging of the canal began in 1817 and visit the grave of Francis Bellamy, the man who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.· Travel the waterway aboard a mule-drawn packet boat at the Erie Canal Village near Rome.· Attend the Oz Fest and meet the Munchkins in Chittenango, home of L. Frank Baum, the man who wrote the "Wizard of Oz" stories.· Enjoy a weekend of summer fun at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake, part of today's Erie Canal.· Learn how the canal helped make Syracuse one of the world's premier salt producing centers. -- Take a dinner cruise and meet a "star-in-the-making" at Baldwinsville. Traveling aboard "Cayuga", a traditional canal boat, you will:· Enjoy incredible wild life in the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. · Visit the canal town of Palmyra, home to the largest collection of hand-woven coverlets in the U.S. and birthplace of the Mormon Religion.· Watch the world's most unusual bridge in operation in Fairport. It's listed in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" 16 times! · Tour Rochester, home to Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb and a host of educational and cultural attractions, including Eastman House and the Strong Museum. · See the church that George Pullman (of Pullman railroad car fame) built in honor of his parents in Albion. · Watch and listen as canal artist Arthur Barnes interprets canal life onto canvas in Medina.· Visit Lockport, site of the most difficult engineering and construction job on the Erie Canal. Lockport is also the birthplace of volleyball and the fire hydrant.· Experience Buffalo to learn about the city's personal connection with four U.S. presidents and the story behind "Buffalo Wings".· Admire the spirit and laugh with the wild and wacky "boat builders" who race for glory in the annual Tonawanda Canal Fest. · Along the way see an "upside down" bridge, a sloping lift bridge, a floating dam, and more!

OTT-DVD-116 - On Tour... FREEWAY OF THE ATLANTIC A Coastal Tour Of Northern Spain AUTOPISTA DEL ATLANTICO This journey along the Autopista Del Atlantico travels across the northernmost region of Spain in Galicia, a green land on the roaring Atlantic, similar to Scotland, and abundant with colourful tradition and culture. Coruña's history centres mainly around its harbour. In ancient times the city was an important seaport and under Roman occupation it was known as Flavium Brigantium. Legend has it that the vivacious Maria Pita revolted against the former pirate Sir Francis Drake and thus assisted in the liberation of the city. The Santiago De Compostela Cathedral is said to be the most outstanding monument in Spain. It covers 23,000 square metres and took more than a hundred years to build. Pontevedra is a city on the mouth of the Rio Lérez. Cobbled pavements lead past splendid Pazos, the residential palaces of the city's old trading families. Two hundred kilometres long, the Galician coast represents thirty per cent of the Spanish coastline. Its strategic location once made Galicia an ideal haunt for smugglers and pirates and its tiny villages give the impression that time has stood still.

MTW-DVD-110 - The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and hangs majestically like a giant gateway over San Francisco Bay. In the sunlight, the bridge really does look golden and when a sudden fog descends, the tips of her pillars rise supremely above the waterscape below. A hundred thousand tons of steel and almost 300,000 cubic metres of cement form the foundations which have protected the bridge from storm force winds of up to100 miles an hour. It was originally designed to take 3 million cars a year but in fact it is used by more than 45 million, and the numbers are increasing. To date, a billion vehicles have used this masterpiece of human invention. On 28th May 1937, the San Francisco Chronicle reported: "We got it wrong. The bridge which no-one was supposed to be able to build, no one approved and no one would use, now stands before you in all its glory." Amazing how the newspapers, even in those days, sometimes got it wrong!

SHF-DVD-IRAQ - Inside Iraq The Untold StoriesJoin me as I travel Iraq discovering the untold stories about the lives of the Iraqi people and the US soldiers. As a freelance filmmaker, I will take you on a unique personal journey uncovering stories that go beyond the headlines and politics.Tour a children's landmine hospital Visit remote villages with medical aid workers Drop in on illegal gun markets Walk the streets of Baghdad Get a tour of an Abrams tank Meet the soldiers who are finding creative solutions Witness a fire fight with Iraqi insurgents Ride along on night patrols in search of terroristsBelow are media and university reviews for Inside Iraq: The Untold Stories. MEDIA REVIEWS Those who are strongly for or against the Iraq war won't find their positions unequivocally supported by this film. Which is what makes it worth seeing. The Portland Tribune Shiley's film is an incredible guided tour of the Iraq that has yet to be adequately portrayed in mainstream American media. The result is an emotionally complex film that provides perspective on a complex reality that the government has worked to simplify, and the media has done little to clarify. Willamette Week (Portland, OR)-Movie Review It's a journey worth taking, but better him than you. He poked into things that journalists and others don't usually stop to examine, and he emerged with a highly personal travelogue that sheds a light on a complex and volatile situation. The Oregonian Living Section Shiley deserves credit for going to Iraq twice by himself (both times for a month) and trying to get stories he believes are worth showing. San Francisco Chronicle Shiley captures quite a lot of intriguing footage - and makes an important point about just how out of control the situation in Iraq has gotten..." San Francisco Bay Guardian What an amazing, powerful film and presentation. In essence, you provided us with a comprehensive behind the scenes tour, no snap-shot news reports, no "approved" footage, no political speak press conferences, just the simple and unfortunate reality that for everyone involved war is hell.. University of Wisconsin Shiley's footage presented stories of survival amidst extreme strife, the human stories that are not seen for the very most part on the nightly news. "...well attended and compelling..." Purdue University I think the questions you raised last night are part of the conversation we should all be having, and I think it is really admirable that you did the work to help us to have it. Keep it up! Harvard Alumni Association I applaud you for undertaking this difficult and creative work. I think this film has a future as an important source of information for citizens who are confused about the US 'project' in Iraq. Reed College, Portland, OR

GTR-DVD-1174 - Since the early foundation of Porto in Roman times the Douro River has been an important lifeline for the second largest city in Portugal. Its outstanding landmark, the Igreja De Sao Francisco, rises up above the steep riverbank and over a nostalgic tramline. During the economic and cultural flowering period of the city the plain Igreja De Sao Francisco of those days was transformed into a splendid building. In the 17th and 18th centuries a vast amount of money was donated to the church and this assisted in creating the historic masterpiece of today. No expense was spared by the local citizens. It is thought that more than two hundred kilograms of gold leaf was used to adorn the church. Even today the highly detailed quality of the woodcarvings highlights the magnificent craftsmanship of bygone times. Whether the pulpit or the many paintings, the abundance of exquisite workmanship is simply astonishing and unique in the whole of Porto, an impressive fantasy of marble and gold. GTR-DVD-1134 - The Santa Barbara Mission is located on a hill above the centre of a famous coastal resort on California's legendary west coast. In 1820 the sacred building's architect wanted to base his design on the architectural and artistic styles of Roman temple construction. While in Spain a Franciscan friar acquired a book that contained details of Pre-Christian buildings designed by the Roman architect, Vitruvio Polion. Long before the Spanish invaded and the arrival of missionaries, this region was inhabited by a tribe of Native American Indians, the Chumash. The early religious community that settled here educated the Indians in Christianity thus a number of the important leaders of the Chumas were converted to Christianity. Compared to other Spanish missions in North America the splendid design of Santa Barbara's interior and the church's precious works of art are unique. Right up to the present day an important part of the historic and cultural heritage of California has been lovingly maintained within this veritable Queen of Missions. 7DY-DVD-152 - For some, San Diego - a coastal city with a wonderful climate - is California's southernmost city, for others it is the northernmost city in Mexico. This is where we begin our tour of California, the most populated state in the USA, the Promised Land! The red tram, known as the San Diego Trolley, leaves Amtrak Station and travels south to Seaport Village on the Mexican border while north of San Diego is Joshua Tree Park, a huge nature reserve that is located between the Mojave and Colorado Deserts. The Mormons who came to this region during their search for the 'Promised Land' gave the Joshua Tree its name as it reminded them of the holy prophet of the same name. Las Vegas appears like a mirage in the desert, awake night and day, THE entertainment capital of the world! Guarded by a sphinx that stretches its paws out toward the Strip, a pyramid looms above the desert paradise, the Luxor Hotel, one of many theme hotels in this incredible city. The MGM lion guards one of the largest hotels in the world with over five thousand rooms, whereas the Bellagio is a return to the exclusive nature of the casino hotels of the past: here, luxury is at its zenith - an investment of 1,8 billion dollars speaks for itself! Only two and a half hours by car to the west of Las Vegas is the USA's most recent national park that extends to the opposite side of California's border, Death Valley! It was through here that thousands of pioneers took a short cut while journeying west, many of them perishing in the attempt. The Yosemite National Park is a near-impenetrable landscape full of huge granite mountains over the steep slopes of which torrents of roaring water plunge a thousand metres into the valleys of the last Ice Age. Los Angeles is synonymous with Hollywood, and Beverly Hills, a perfect product of the American Dream, is its famous suburb with neat parks and blossoming flower beds. There's also the Sidewalk Of Fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre and Rodeo Drive, the most exclusive shopping mile in the world. And of course there's San Francisco, a city that's under constant threat of destruction by earthquake. Perhaps that's why 'Frisco exudes a strong sense of well-being that has become known as 'That California Feelin.!'
