VPG-DVD-190 - DELHI Delhi is the political and administrative capital of India and the largest democracy in the world, a melting pot of both culture and religion plus a constantly expanding metropolis that has more than ten million inhabitants. Built on the site of twelve former cities it is the gateway to India and has been the country's centre of power for almost a thousand years. Jama Masjid, the Friday Mosque, is one of old Delhi's main landmarks, bequeathed to the city by the Mogul king, Shah Jahan. Its huge inner courtyard accommodates twenty thousand. Raj Ghat is a memorial to the country's former political leaders and once contained the funeral pyres of Mahatma Ghandi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Ghandi. Rajpath is the name of an impressive three hundred metre wide road flanked by green swathes and luxuriant fountains, remnants of British Imperial rule. The National Rail Museum contains an interesting collection of nostalgic locomotives, carriages and memorabilia and for those who do not wish to risk a journey on India's present day over-packed trains, the museum provides the perfect opportunity to imagine how it must have been on the Indian railroads of old. The Safdar-Jang Mausoleum was built in the final years of Mogul rule and is an architectural monument of this golden era. It contains each design element of this epoch, with a terrace-like substructure, painted stucco and a dome. No other city in this huge and diverse country demonstrates the dramatic history of India with all the intensity of colour as Delhi.

VPG-DVD-118 - ALGARVE Al-Gharb - The Land In The West! Because it formed part of their realm, the southernmost province of Portugal was thus named by the Arabs who occupied it and everywhere there are castles which the Christian kings built during the Moorish Wars. Tavira had numerous rulers, among them Romans and Greeks who established a trading centre. Unobtrusive elegance is an indication of the prosperity of bygone times and due to the city's thirty well-preserved churches it is referred to as The City Of Churches. Olhao is a busy fishing port, the tiled benches on its shoreline offering a relaxed view of the day's activities. Its fishermen are said to be the most courageous in the region and in 1808 some of them crossed the Atlantic in a small boat until they reached Rio de Janeiro. Faro is the capital of the Algarve, the heritage of numerous cultures that possesses its own unique atmosphere. Near to the Baroque cathedral, the attractive centre of the old town has been well preserved and demonstrates Faro's historic and dazzling past. Portimao not only boasts a fishing port but also one of the Algarve's most beautiful beaches. When the Carthaginians came here from the Mediterranean they built a harbour for their ships, the Portus Hannibalis. The sleepy small town of Silves, formerly known as Xelb, was once the splendid capital of the Moorish Al-Gharb. The castle area is a reminder of its former Arab occupation and Christian Crusades. From the huge red sandstone Moorish castle there's a breathtaking view across the green hills of the surrounding landscape. Three hundred days of sunshine each year, a breathtakingly beautiful landscape, isolated bays with red rocks, golden sandy beaches and crystal blue sea, picturesque villages and castles with a fascinating history. That is the Algarve!

TVI-DVD-ROM - Roma The Eternal CityAll ways lead to Rome as people used to say, many years before Christ. The modern metropolis has become used to the flood of tourists and pilgrims from all over the world. Our mosaic starts at Piazza Venezia with its marble monument to king Emanuel II called the "Wedding cake". The Forum, Palatine, Aventine, Capitol form together with the Coliseum the core of the ancient city. The baroque period is represented by Piazza Navona and Fontana di Trevi. We will visit St Peter's basilica and the Vatican museums and the most beautiful churches too, like San Giovanni in Laterano and Santa Maria Maggiore. Rome is the only city hosting an entire sovereign state-the Vatican. Castel Sant' Angelo, Janiculum hill and the ancient quarter of Trastevere are our next stops. Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo, the famous Spanish steps and many other city seclusions form a mixture one cannot see elsewhere. The everlasting city had its own water supply system as early as in 2nd BC;feeding also the giant Baths of Caracalla. Finally the Via Appia Antica will lead us to the catacombs and to the ancient port of Ostia. All this is Rome.

GTR-DVD-1087 - The magnificent buildings within Mozart's famous city of Salzburg are not the only reason why it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Austria. The Prince Archbishop, Wolf Dietrich, ordered that Salzburg Cathedral be built according to Italian Early Baroque design. It was constructed between 1614 and 1628 on the site of a previous Romanic building. At one time the Getreidegasse served as the main road of the old city and on January 27th 1756, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in house number seven.. 119 metres above the town is one of Middle Europe's most well preserved castles, Hohensalzburg, which covers an area of around 30,000 square metres. The centre of Kapitel Square is dominated by a Schwemme, a fountain that dates back to the 18th century where the city's horses were washed down. There are numerous impressive sacred buildings in the city such as the Baroque Kollegien Church designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer Von Erlach. A fascinating and remarkably attractive park surrounds the Lustschloss Hellbrunn that dates back to both the Manieristic and Early Baroque period. The interior of the palace is as beautiful as its external appearance. Illusionist architectural paintings were a popular device designed to alienate reality. Due to the exquisite taste of the royal archbishops of a glorious age, today Salzburg is one of the most beautiful Baroque cities in Europe. GTR-DVD-1204 - On a mountain summit seven hundred and fifty metres above the Mediterranean is Érice, the ancient town of Eryx. The well-fortified walls of its fortress once protected one of the oldest cities in Sicily. According to legend the Trojan, Aeneas, son of Aphrodite, established a town here after fleeing from the Greeks. First the goddess of love, Astrarte, was worshipped here followed by the Greek goddess Aphrodite, and then Venus who was worshipped by the Romans. Thus this location became a kind of 'love mountain' and a popular destination especially with male pilgrims as it no doubt appealed to their more romantic nature. The medieval city centre of Monte San Guiliano, as today's Érice was named by the Normans, has for many centuries remained almost unchanged. From the fortress, the Castello, there are clear views of the Sicilian coastline and Trapani Harbour, and far out across the Mediterranean. Beneath the walls of the fortress, in the 20th century Érice also became known as a research centre for both meteorology and oceanography. Érice is far more than just an historically rich settlement situated on a mountaintop. In the romantic ruins of the fortress above the former Acropolis, the atmosphere of ancient times still lives on.
