VPG-DVD-200 - RAJASTHAN Rajasthan, Land Of Kings and one of the most unique and colourful provinces in northern India on the border with Pakistan. The barren desert landscape was once the home of the Rajputes that ruled over the land for more than a thousand years. Our journey begins in Jaipur, the Pink City, where the buildings consist of the reddish stone of the surrounding landscape. Much to the surprise of tourists the local people continue to use the elephant as a means of transport in this splendid trading town. However, modern traffic with its cars, tuk-tuk taxis and countless bicycles has also found its way into this fairytale-like city. An artificial lake suddenly appears in the centre of which is the beautiful Jal Mahal Castle. Amid the arid, rocky landscape is the original residence of the Rajputes clan, the Amber Fort that is strategically situated within rock walls. The small town of Churu is flanked on both its south and west sides by sand dunes. It is believed that it was founded in 1563 by the Jats. It subsequently became important as the supplier of caravans for the Poddar family that brought the village a long period of prosperity. The white temples of Ranakpur are the sanctuaries of the Jains, situated in a picturesque valley to the west of the Aravalli Mountains north of Udaipur. Rajasthan is the Land Of The Maharajas in all its splendour: a living fairy-tale beneath the desert sky.

TMT-DVD-105 - TAJ MAHAL At the beginning of the 17th century, the Grand Mogul, Shahdshahan, erected the marble sepulchre, the Taj Mahal, as a tribute to, and in grief for, his favourite wife, known as 'the darling of the palace'. This action led to an upturn in both the economy and culture of the country and appears to have been an act of reparation, bearing in mind that the Mogul was a direct descendant of the Mogul, Timur, known as Tamerlan the Great, who was infamous for his indescribable cruelty. The magnificence of the sepulchre is still a reminder of the noble act performed by the Grand Mogul who thus through the centuries expiated a great injustice. Thus, the Taj Mahal is a magnificent wonder of the world that was originally dedicated to love...a wonder of the world for which there is still no explanation!

OTT-DVD-133 - There are many ways by which one can travel across the state of Rajasthan in northern India but the train is probably the most fascinating. This journey explores the history of India's former maharajahs and mughals and begins in Delhi, India's great capital city. The streets of Delhi are full of life and even though there is much poverty the city is currently enjoying a degree of cultural and financial prosperity. Many historic landmarks such as the Lal Qila, the Red Fort, are a reminder of the city's glorious past. Due to its numerous magnificent historic buildings, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is one of the most beautiful and impressive cities in the region. The facade of the city's most famous landmark, the Palace Of The Winds, is one of the most photographed sights in India. Around forty-two kilometres west of Jaisalmer the Desert National Park helps visitors to experience the natural beauty of the remote Thar Desert. At night the inhabitants of the desert, accompanied by traditional and exotic sounds, display the oriental side of their culture. Traditional music and dance are part of the nocturnal ambience of the desert and create an evocative scene straight out of the One Thousand And One Nights. With around seven hundred thousand inhabitants Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan. The Meherangarh Museum contains an extensive collection of historic objects that once belonged to the rulers of Jodhpur. Agra is the most popular tourist destination in India. Between 1630 and 1653 Shah Jahan built a unique monument here that is one of the most famous buildings in the world, the Taj Mahal, a magnificent example of Mughal architecture that is synonymous with India itself. Historically, culturally and scenically the journey has provided many colourful impressions of Royal Rajasthan, the legendary kingdom of India's Rajput and Mughal rulers.

IR-DVD-102 - Experience the world's first totally non-smoking cruise on Carnival's Paradise. On this episode of GREAT CRUISES we board the world's first non-smoking cruise ship, one of the "Fun Ships" of Carnival Cruise Lines, the PARADISE, as she sets sail from Miami to the ports of Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios, in the Western Caribbean. We'll enjoy many of the side trips, including a visit to the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Later, we'll visit a turtle farm, snorkel with giant stingrays and dive a hundred feet below the sea on a submarine in the Cayman Islands. And finally, we'll visit Ocho Rios, Jamaica where we'll tour lush botanical gardens and climb six hundred feet up spectacular Dunn's River Falls. Our first port of call is Cozumel, an island off the eastern shores of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Here we board a high-speed catamaran to take us to the port of Playa Del Carmen back on the mainland. After a short bus ride we reach the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum. Our second port-of-call is Grand Cayman, a relatively small island renowned as one of the world's largest financial centers, being home to over 580 banks and trust companies holding almost a trillion dollars in assets! A favorite tourist haunt is Hell's Post Office, so named after the amazing limestone rock formations. You can pick up a tee shirt that, well, says it all! We jumped at the chance to visit "Stingray City" where each day dozens of gigantic stingrays, some as large as six feet in diameter, congregate to be fed pieces of squid by hand, from eager tourists. Our final port of call is Ocho Rios in Jamaica. Yah Mon! Christopher Columbus declared the Blue Mountains of Jamaica to be "the fairest land eyes ever beheld... where the mountains touch the sky. We head up through the rain forests of Fern Gully, a 3-mile road built on an old riverbed that winds through a lush tropical canyon, home to over 2,000 different species of ferns, and a few local characters. A pleasant surprise as we toured Ocho Rios was the Taj Mahal duty-free plaza an architectural parody of India's matchless tomb strategically placed opposite the exit from the pier.High on a hill overlooking the town is Shaw Park Botanical Gardens, a beautiful and relaxing experience, created in the nineteenth century as a private gentleman's estate. Acres of lawns and terraces tumble down the hillside and are enhanced by an interesting variety of native and imported trees, decorative shrubs and roses. Dunn's River Falls is Jamaica's premier attraction, visited by almost a million persons annually. It is a place of unique beauty where the river dances down a giant limestone staircase to a white sand beach and the warm blue Caribbean sea. Climbing the falls with a guide is easier than it looks but there are steps with handrails and wooden observation decks for the non-athletic. In the river there are pools to swim in, caves behind falls, and mini-whirlpools.

GTR-DVD-1021 - Taj Mahal, India Islamic architecture's most beautiful building, the Taj Mahal, is located on the southern shore of the Jumna Rive close to Agra in Northern India. This mighty mausoleum was built on the orders of the Mogul King, Shah Jehan, for his favourite wife. Surrounding an inner core of stone, the Taj Mahal is mainly of brick construction encased in marble. The marble was transported from quarries about 300 km from Agra and in addition to its richly decorated, precious white marble, red sandstone was also used for its massive main gateway. Floral reliefs, tendrils and other carefully created stone works adorn the building's magnificent exterior. On its walls there are artistic images taken from the Koran and there are also non-Islamic decorations that were designed by 17th century architects. The stunning Persian motifs of blossom and plants consist partly of precious stones such as diamonds, garnet, sapphires and onyx. In 1629 the wife of the Indian Mogul, Shah Jehan, died at the birth of her 14th child. In her memory, her husband promised to build a mighty monument: the result was the Taj Mahal. It was built between 1630 and 1653 and its Persian character is due to its first architect, Isa Afandi, who originated from Iran. Its onion-like cupolas were a real architectural achievement of their day and the symmetry of the building is truly remarkable. A perfect example of Indo-Islamic architecture, today the Taj Mahal is India's most famous structure. GTR-DVD-1189 - A massive red sandstone wall surrounds the Red Fort of Agra, a great and historic city two hundred kilometres south east of Delhi. Almost two and a half kilometres long and at an average height of twenty metres, the wall contains several well-fortified bastions that have been used by the Indian army right up to the present day. The east side of the Diwan-I-Am is connected to the Machi Bhavan, a beautiful courtyard that is surrounded on three sides by a two-storey building complex. It is believed that the legendary golden throne of the great moguls was kept in the southern wing. In addition to the private audience hall of the moguls, the Diwan-I-Khas, the private chambers of Shah Jahan are one of the fort's most fascinating sights. But 1658 prove to be a tragic year for Shah Jahan as his son, Aurangzeb, arrested him and removed him from power. From his prison cell he was able to see one of the most famous symbols of his former regime his favourite wife's fantastic mausoleum, the Taj Mahal. GTR-DVD-1182 - Along historic walls, numerous beautiful gates lead into the centre of Jaipur. The city's well- preserved old town, built on the orders of Maharaja Jai Singh, gives the impression that it is almost exactly as it was at the time of its creation in 1727. In the 18th century it was believed that both the city and palace were unlikely to encounter hostile attack but subsequent events prove this not to be so. Although a number of military defences existed in 1748, the city was attacked by the Maraths. The exquisite residence of the Maharajas, the Hawa Mahal, otherwise known as the Palace Of The Wind, is now regarded as the finest architectural landmark in Jaipur. However, hiding beyond its magnificent honeycomb-like facade there is a simple staircase: for the building was the domain of the royal harem! Outside the city, close to the route that led to the former capital of Amber, a fairytale-like castle rises up from a small artificial lake. The Jal Mahal was built in the 18th century by Madho Singh for the royal hunt. Due to its many fascinating architectural and cultural treasures, Jaipur is deservedly one of the most popular travel destinations in India.
