TVI-DVD-ROM - Roma The Eternal CityAll ways lead to Rome as people used to say, many years before Christ. The modern metropolis has become used to the flood of tourists and pilgrims from all over the world. Our mosaic starts at Piazza Venezia with its marble monument to king Emanuel II called the "Wedding cake". The Forum, Palatine, Aventine, Capitol form together with the Coliseum the core of the ancient city. The baroque period is represented by Piazza Navona and Fontana di Trevi. We will visit St Peter's basilica and the Vatican museums and the most beautiful churches too, like San Giovanni in Laterano and Santa Maria Maggiore. Rome is the only city hosting an entire sovereign state-the Vatican. Castel Sant' Angelo, Janiculum hill and the ancient quarter of Trastevere are our next stops. Pantheon, Piazza del Popolo, the famous Spanish steps and many other city seclusions form a mixture one cannot see elsewhere. The everlasting city had its own water supply system as early as in 2nd BC;feeding also the giant Baths of Caracalla. Finally the Via Appia Antica will lead us to the catacombs and to the ancient port of Ostia. All this is Rome.

NPM-DVD-112 - Nature Parks KRUGER NATIONAL PARK South AfricaIn 1898, a small area between Sabie and Crocodile River was designated as a National Wild Animal Reserve, thus making the Kruger National Park Africa's oldest animal sanctuary. It is 450 kilometres long and about 55 kilometres wide and is one of the largest animal parks in the world, with 147 animal species, over 500 bird varieties, and 114 different reptiles. The Kruger Park is divided into three areas. Whilst bush land and mopane trees form the northern half, the wide grass plains of the central region are home to a large number of wild animals. In the lush vegetation of the southern half, that consists mainly of acacia trees and bush land, is the preferred habitat of rhinos, hippos and many other wild animals. The elephant, rhino, African buffalo, lion and leopard make up the so-called 'Big Five' of the Kruger National Park and in spite of its dry climate there is an immense variety of plant life with a rich assortment of trees, bushes, grasses, ferns, climbers and herbaceous plants. Located on the southern bank of the Sabie Rive, the Skukuza Camp is the park's organisational centre and can accommodate over 1000 visitors. In 1902, this location was the base camp for the co-founder of the Kruger National Park, Colonel Stevenson-Hamilton. The camp is situated on the 'Lion Safari Road', one of the five most favoured routes for observing animals in the entire park, and a well maintained road network connects the park's 24 camps with the most interesting sights. On the edge of the park's winding sandy tracks there is often a chance encounter with a prowling hyena and the road itself is popular with rhinos and many other creatures that appear to be determined to be photographed by anxious tourists! The Kruger National Park that was once the Mecca of the Big Game Hunter is now an idyllic paradise of Nature and a veritable Noah's Ark for much of Africa's wildlife.

Chris is a seasoned full moon DJ and Steve is moving to the island to open a restaurant (and, of course attend the March full moon party).Brian Kelly is the British consul in Bangkok. He and his team deal with a variety of problems affecting both British travellers in Thailand and British subjects who live in the country permanently. Among the many things he has had to deal with are lost passports, people arrested for drug offences and lads being drugged and robbed by prostitutes.Sheila's son Johnny, 38, is in Bangkok's Bang Kwang prison and is five years into a 50 year sentence for attempting to smuggle two-and-a-half kilos of heroin out of the country. Johnny took the drugs in a bid to pay off a debt to a Thai gambling ring and believes that one of the gang tipped the authorities off. He now lives in a 12ft by 15ft cell with up to 30 other prisoners. His mother is allowed one contact visit with her son each year. "Johnny is a wicked boy, he saw a way out of his financial problem. Ha made the biggest mistake of his life, and he's paying for it with his life."Each week 10,000 people travel from Britain to Bangkok and this series takes a closer look at the personal stories behind these journeys.
