VPG-DVD-213 - ICELAND Iceland is an island born of fire and ice with white glaciers, black beaches and green meadows: a land of geysers, waterfalls and volcanoes. Reykjavik is set amid a fascinating landscape, a metropolis on the outermost edge of civilisation and the world's northernmost capital city. A little outside the city is an attraction that is a meeting place for one and all, The Blue Lagoon, the largest bath tub in the world! The mineral water it contains has a temperature of forty degrees centigrade and the milky-blue pool has been proven to possess beneficial healing qualities. Southeast of The Blue Lagoon is Hveragerdi that is set within an idyllic valley. Due to its protected location and numerous thermal springs, in 1929 a garden city originated there and within its many greenhouses grow vegetables, fruit and exotic flowers. The small coastal picturesque village of Vik with its few houses and around three hundred inhabitants is located in a valley close to a bay. The mystical looking rocks seem to protect this place that has the most rainfall in what is an already rainy region and above which the rain clouds are often alive with both thunder and lightning. Iceland is a fascinating world of water, fire and ice and full of breathtaking beauty and overwhelming contrast. It is one of the last natural paradises on Earth.

NPM-DVD-128 - Located in the north west of the U.S.A is Yellowstone, a national park of the superlative in which the impressive white water of Old Faithful is today one of the most famous and most photographed natural spectacles in the world. Indeed, for more than a century this mighty geyser has been the proud and unique landmark of the oldest national park in the United States. The Yellowstone National Park is famous for its highly visible geological processes. The area close to Old Faithful not only features a number of geysers but also numerous hot springs that highlight the tremendous thermal power that lies beneath the earth's surface. Today the Grand Geyser is the largest active geyser in the world. Its huge eruptions occur every eight to fourteen hours and last for nine to twelve minutes and can sometimes reach a height of sixty metres. The Yellowstone is one of the largest volcanoes in the world. Because it is located directly above a geological hot spot, a huge cave constantly fills with magma. It is situated at a depth of eight kilometres and is the reason for the park's visible geo-thermal activity. Some kilometres south of Nymph Lake is another geothermal area, the Norris Geyser Basin. This area is unique among the landscapes of Yellowstone Park as it is not only the park's hottest area but also boasts the largest geyser in the world, Steamboat Geyser. Although Yellowstone National Park is important for North America's plant and wild life, this nine thousand square kilometre nature reserve is primarily a geological park. Amazing, fantastic, incredible and wonderful: how can you put into words a place that provides so many remarkable glimpses of the inner workings of Planet Earth?

GTR-DVD-1183 - Around thirty kilometres east of Rome on a low plateau beneath the Tiburtine Mountains lie the ruins of Villa Adrianna, once the residence of Roman emperor, Hadrian, who had the stately residence built in the second century A.D. as a fine and luxurious country estate. Indeed, it is believed that the emperor himself participated in the planning of its construction and in each detailed aspect of the Villa's design. The Canopus is one of the most impressive areas of the Villa. The statue of Tiber is an example of the great skill of the Roman sculptors. The lengthy canal was developed between 125 and 133 A.D. Six Caryatids adorn the western side of the elegant row of columns that surround the Canopus water basin, creating a wonderfully picturesque setting. The thermal springs were built during the first construction stage of the Villa Adriana and are the oldest within the complex. Public baths were extremely important in the daily life of the Romans thus it is not surprising that the Villa possessed three thermal springs. In the 16th century archaeologists began to search for the emperor's lost residence but following its discovery many came only to plunder its treasures. In spite of this the unique splendour of the Roman Villa Adriana has thankfully been well preserved right up to the present day. GTR-DVD-1251 - Around seventy kilometres west of the Libyan capital of Tripoli are the remnants of an ancient city that has been in ruins since ancient times. As with Oea and Leptis Magna, Sabratha was one of the last large trading cities of the former Tripolitania. A re-constructed theatre that could accommodate an audience of five thousand is the ancient city's most impressive building and dates back to the second century B.C. It was built by the Romans whose cultural influence on Sabratha lasted for several centuries. Several baths, among them the Thermal Salt Water Baths on the coast, give an insight into the high living standards of the city's former inhabitants and trade with the farmers of the surrounding region helped to make life in the town extremely pleasant. In the seventh century A.D. the city was conquered by the Arabs. However, they selected another Tripolitanian metropolis as their capital city. Thus the once-glorious Sabratha fell into decay and lay forgotten for several centuries. Extending for nearly one and a half kilometres, the historic centre of Budapest and its impressive Royal Palace tower proudly over the banks of the Danube. Budapest's castle district has developed into the Hungarian capital's main attraction, most notably, Fishermen's Bastion that was built between 1890 and 1905. The greater part of the Gothic, Matthias Cathedral, dates back to the 19th century but of the 16th century buildings, only their foundations remain. Following its original construction in the 14th century, Matthias Cathedral became the setting of several royal coronations. Due to numerous military conflicts, the entire Gothic area of the city was destroyed. The buildings and facades that can be seen today belong mainly to the Hungarian Baroque era. Deep underground, a several kilometre long maze cuts through the city's hill. The basements of many buildings are connected to this tunnel system, therefore allowing visitors easy access to a seemingly never-ending system of fascinating passages. The Turkish conquerors used these subterranean passages and caves, that were created among thermal springs and waterways, and extended them for military use. During the hours of evening, Buda's streets and archways radiate a magnificent light that is a wonderful contrast to the wonderful ambience of this city during the day.
