OTT-DVD-122 - On Tour... BLUE DANUBE CRUISE WACHAUBLUE DANUBE CRUISE WACHAU Wachau is a World Heritage Sight, a thirty-six long combination of cultivated landscape and the blue and mighty Danube. A boat journey on the famous river is the ideal way of observing the captivating villages and splendid wine growing terraces along its banks. The old town of Stein extends along a narrow section of the river with attractive buildings set amid atmospheric lanes in which beautifully restored facades shine out in the bright sunlight. Krems was first mentioned in 995 A.D and its main square contains several impressive houses that once belonged to the city's middle class inhabitants. The facades of the 16th and 18th century buildings are historic treasures, one of which was the birthplace of the mother of Franz Liszt. In Weissenkirchen where the Granite Gneiss Plateau, its rock formations and Bohemian forests reach down to the river, are fertile terraces on which grow Austria's most famous wine. The wine is beautifully balanced and its appealing lightness and gentle acidity are what make it so popular. In spite of devastating fires in 1793, Weissenkirchen is now one of the most picturesque villages of the Wachau. The village of Spitz lies in the heart of the Wachau and is closely associated with steam navigation that was first used on the Danube in 1829. The Danube Valley enjoys a temperate climate and strong vines flourish on the slopes of Tausendeimer Mountain. The Danube Valley of the Wachau is a romantic gem set amid a glorious landscape.

Today Cesky Krumlov is a lively town and one of the most beautiful in the Czech Republic. Although the history of settlement in this area dates back to the Bronze Age the high season of Bohemian Krummau can be traced back to the Middle Ages. At that time the Germans as well as the Czechs influenced the cultural and social life of the charming old town. The magnificence of the local architecture is all around and brings to life the glorious ambience of bygone times. The mighty cylindrical tower of Lower Castle has surveyed the town since the end of the 16th century and is typical of Bohemian Krummau architecture. In those days the lords of the castle kept bears within the castle's large moat and even now they continue to be a special and somewhat unusual attraction. The interior of the town's Renaissance castle highlights the wealth of its former noble inhabitants and contains the famous Golden Eggenbergische Carriage. Each evening the town's centuries old buildings gleam romantically in the evening light while large quantities of world famous Bohemian beer are enjoyed in the local hostelries. Cesky Krumlov, an historic and living work of art! GTR-DVD-1031 - The charming older part of Madrid is dominated by numerous monumental and magnificent buildings including, most notably, the wonderful Palacio Real. A harmonious and elegantly designed facade opens onto the Plaza De Oriente. This was formerly the location of numerous buildings: originally, the Moors built an Alcazar here; in the course of time, it was transformed into the main palace of the Hapsburg royal family that once reigned over the country. The magnificent halls of the palace are breathtaking. The hall in the Comedor De Gala contains the most beautiful, grandiose chandeliers and precious paintings by the Bohemian, Anton Raphael Mengs and ceiling frescos by Gianbattista Tiepolo decorate several of the rooms. Even though the royal family no longer resides in the palace, it is still a much-prized historic jewel in the Spanish crown. EXT-DVD-17 - CESKY KRUMLOV Located in the Czech Republic, Cesky Krumlov is a unique and extraordinary city and was first settled in the fifteenth century B.C. Each nook and cranny of this unique gem surprises with something new to see and provides a wonderful insight into the history of Bohemia. For nearly three hundred years, and up until the beginning of the seventeenth century Bohemian Krummau was ruled by the Lords Of Rosenberg. It was a time of much prosperity that in turn gave rise to many new and magnificent buildings in the centre of the town. In 1992 it was designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and since then it has shined out in all of its former glory. Most of the restoration work on the town's ancient dwelling houses, churches and monastery complexes has now been fully completed. Cesky Krumlov Castle features a special attraction with a long tradition: since the end of the sixteenth century a number of bears have lived within the castle grounds! Indeed, the castle's large moat provides more space for these wonderful creatures than they would have in any zoo. Cesky Krumlov is popular with visitors from all four corners of the world and it is, without a doubt, one of the finest and most well preserved treasures of European history.
