VPG-DVD-186 - GOLFE DU MORBIHAN The Golfe Du Morbihan is situated on the south coast of Brittany and protects the region from the strong currents of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a fascinating coastal landscape with huge castles and extensive sand dunes. Influential and wealthy ship owners once settled here: they ran the East India Trading Company that earned high taxes for the French monarchy. The present day harbour makes it difficult to believe that it was once a busy centre of trade with the distant Orient but the town's well preserved buildings indicate its former wealth and ferryboats travel to the village on the opposite side of the Lorient that still boasts a splendid array of huge warehouses. The Megaliths Of Carnac are stone relics that are thousands of years old and date back to the middle of the Neolithic Period and although they have been analysed by scientists they are nonetheless full of mystique as four long avenues of mighty stone known as 'Alignments'extend across eight kilometres of scenic terrain. The enchanting medieval city of Auray is situated on a bend of the Rivière D`Auray that flows into the Golfe Du Morbihan. The city has earned its place in the history books of Brittany. Here, two families once fought to rule this land and a battle decided which one! The attractive charm of the Brittany landscape owes much of its allure to its picturesque old stone houses and idyllic bays. The Golfe Du Morbihan with its numerous islands both large and small is a French paradise set along the rugged Atlantic coast.

Please note: the crew rearranged my home office to make it look like a survivalist's bunker. That's not what it normally looks like around here. The crew filmed me about 2 weeks after Hurricane Katrina at which time I had just recieved a cache of supplies and had them sitting in my kitchen. They took those supplies and moved them over to where I keep my books and papers, things you would normally expect from somebody in my line of work. The fact that I was wearing a green sweater when they came here only helped convey an atmosphere of "bunker-chic." -Matt http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net

GTR-DVD-1227 - Malta's past is reminiscent of the stormy sea waves that sometimes appear around the rock covered coast of this small yet remarkable island located in the southern Mediterranean. The Lower Barracca Gardens date back to British colonial times. In 1814 Malta became an official Colony of the British Crown just a few years after Napoleon's army had occupied the island. Following various wars, cruel sieges and brutal invasions the inhabitants of Malta decided to secure peace and order by becoming part of the British Empire. The glamour of the Teatro Manoel is only exceeded by the former Grand Master's Palace that is now the official seat of the President and also home of the Parliament of the Maltese Republic. Saint John's Co-Cathedral is one of the island's most prized cultural treasures. The magnificently equipped church that was built between 1573 and 1577 is regarded as being one of the most beautiful architectural creations of Gerolamo Cassar. Although the Maltese knights of Valletta have now been assigned to the history books their cultural heritage is still very much alive on this small yet fascinating Mediterranean island. GTR-DVD-1132 - The Chorherrenstift Neustift in the Southern Tyrol has a long and proud history. Its origins date back to the 12th century. The ancient domicile of the Royal Court of Neustift and a former hospice known as Engelsburg are located close to this monastic settlement. In 1189 Propst Konrad The Second Of Rodank ordered the construction of a sanctuary for pilgrims, the sick and the poor. The Collegiate's library has a remarkable collection of books and its captivating internal décor indicates the prosperity of a bygone time. Provost Leopold The First Of Zanna ordered the costly construction of the splendid library hall designed by architect Giuseppe Sartori of Trentino. The interior of the impressive Collegiate Church dates back to the 18th century. The building's decor is typical Late Baroque and its transition to Southern Germany's Rococo period. In addition to the elaborate creations of the Wessobrunner artists the ceiling frescos of the Augsburg artist, Matthäus Günther, are particularly noteworthy. Beyond the Collegiate there are marvellous fruit plantations and vineyards and The Turkish Tower is a reminder of the region's historic past. As with the entire area of the monastery the unique treasures of the Chorherrenstift Neustift have been preserved for posterity. GTR-DVD-1230 - The massive Chittaurgarh Fortress in the south of the Indian province of Rajasthan has for many centuries been the epitome of legendary Rajput heroism. However, the Chittaurgarh Fortress did not enter the history books because of its glorious victories but due to its catastrophic military defeats. It is believed that Alaud-Din Khalij, the Sultan of Delhi was, along with his mighty army, the first to lay siege to the Chittaurgarh Fortress. Rather than face defeat, in 1303 the men of the fortress, including their families, decided to commit suicide. Thus the legend of the heroic and superhuman courage of the Rajputs was born. While the men attacked the enemy for the last time, the women chose to kill both themselves and their children by throwing themselves onto the Jauhar, a huge fire. The many beautiful religious buildings of Chittaurgarh, such as the sensually decorated Meera Temple, are in stark contrast to the brutal history of the fortress. Despite many battles, some sections of the Kalika Mata Temple have survived to the present day. The sanctuary dates back to the 7th century and is one of the fortress' oldest buildings. The legend of the Rajputs, who retained their courage and pride even to the death, lives on.
