VPG-DVD-193 - BRETAGNE Brittany in the rugged west of France features picturesque old towns, castles and fortresses plus austere medieval cathedrals. Nostalgia and romantic harbour villages still exist here and it is also a land of menhirs and fishermen. Rennes is the capital of the region and it is here that our journey through Brittany begins. It is a small town in which both medieval and classical buildings stand side by side. In 1720 a disastrous fire that raged for seven days destroyed a number of historic houses. Several crooked, partly renovated frame-work houses are situated in the alleys of the old town, their carved windows and oriels create a medieval atmosphere. Thirty two kilometres south is Vitré, a picture postcard town with a city wall, narrow lanes and a castle. English troops besieged the town for many years until the lords of the castle finally paid a large ransom for their freedom. Le Mont Saint Michel with its historic buildings is located on an eighty metre high granite mound and is like something from a fairytale. Powerful fortifications surround the small town and the abbey at the top of the rock. Due to its unique location and architectural splendour this picturesque village is often referred to as the Wonder Of The Occident. Dinan is a small enchanting French town on the banks of the Rance is one of the most beautiful and well preserved mediaeval towns in Brittany. The western part of France has many faces and Brittany truly is a land of myths, castles, fishing villages and historic old towns.

OTT-DVD-108 - On Tour... LAKE POWELL BOAT TOUR Arizona's Scenic SensationLAKE POWELL BOAT TOUR Known as the 'Jewel of the West', Lake Powell is the second largest reservoir in the USA, took 17 years to build and was completed in 1964. This region is known as 'The Wonderland of America' and its extensive horizons, amazingly deep canyons and eternal skies have frequently been depicted in literature, film and advertisements as it is the epitome of wilderness, freedom and adventure, and turns fantasy into reality. The winding journey on the deep blue lake stops in the middle of a splendidly coloured array of stone: reddish-brown Navajo Sandstone, white Entrada Sandstone and other coloured stones and rocks that indicate the ancient geology of the landscape. Rainbow Bridge is an almost circular stone rainbow, 88 metres high and 84 metres Wide and everyone who witnesses these natural formations cannot help but be overwhelmed by their grand and majestic proportions, so massive that they defy the imagination. The wonders of a Man-made reservoir and the amazing result of erosion are of spectacular contrast in this glorious area of the United States.

NPM-DVD-140 - The Chobe region in the far north east of Botswana is well known for its fascinating nature. Its national park was named after the Chobe River one of the most important tributaries of the Zambesi that leads into the nearby world famous, Victoria Falls. The Chobe River acts as a central gateway to numerous villages as well as to the national park's various safari lodges. Unlike many other countries in Africa, tourism in Botswana attracts a particularly exclusive and well-off clientele. The advantages of this are soon apparent. As the number of tourists here is relatively small there is a far greater sense of freedom than in other parts of Africa. On the perimeter of Kasane, the largest city in this region, there are several luxurious lodges that are located along the banks of the river. Each of the safari lodges provides its own boat trips on the Chobe River and these can also be arranged to suit individual preferences. The river is ideal for the observation of wildlife and even by African standards the diversity of wildlife here is exceptional. One of the most spectacular attractions are huge herds of elephants as more than half the entire elephant population of Botswana lives in and around the Chobe National Park. Although their numbers fluctuate, around thirty five thousand to fifty thousand elephants live here making this the largest elephant enclosure in the world! Until relatively recently many White Tailed Eagles and Screaming Eagles were to be found along the Chobe River. However, they have now become quite scarce as many of them have been hunted. It is fortunate that some have made these areas of Botswana into their permanent habitat. The Chobe River is not only an exceptional body of water that flows through one of the most biodiverse regions in Africa, it is also a unique world full of natural wonder and captivating charm.

MTW-DVD-102 - Situated in New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty has become the proud symbol of the United States of America. The statue of the Goddess of Freedom carries the light of the spirit of enlightenment to the Free World. Alexander Gustave Eiffel, whose tower later made him famous, built the statue's ingenious iron frame construction supported by a central shaft. Around this framework a 2.4 millimetre thick copper coating was attached to the statue and it is mainly due to Eiffel's frame that the monument has withstood the bay's savage winter storms. On the 28th October 1886, North America's most important statue was inaugurated by President Grover Cleveland. The statue was the design of a young sculptor, Bartholdi, who had eagerly accepted the work due to the fact that the commission of his design of a large female statue for a lighthouse on the Suez Canal had not reached fruition. At first, the statue received little love and affection. Indeed, New Yorkers used the statue's unveiling ceremony for a protest demonstration! Since then, however, it has most assuredly conquered the hearts of those who have seen it and it has become a symbol of freedom for the whole of America.

GTR-DVD-1093 - Surrounded by the attractive provincial mountain landscape of the Alpilles there is a romantic mediaeval town high on a rock, Les Baux-De-Provence, located 400 metres above the Crau Valley. The historic origins of the village date back to the first millennium A.D. Located in the lower, busier part of the town, the Saint Vincent Church dates back to the 12th century and it is an atmospheric setting for famous Christmas performances such as the Shepherds´ Midnight Mass. Archaeological discoveries and precious works of art are to be found in the Musée D´Histoire De Baux that also serves as the entrance to the upper part of the town. In times of freedom the country's finest troubadours gathered in the town's now ruined castle. Immortalized by a monument, the farmer poet, Charles Rieu, is considered to have been a fine exponent of this age-old tradition. However, in1483 the art of the troubadour grew silent and was replaced by the sound of battle when the powerful catapults of Ludwig The Eleventh destroyed large sections of the castle. Like no other village in the Alpilles, Les Baux-De-Provence has long been the centre of this region's glorious history.
