TMT-DVD-102 - STONEHENGE In the south of England, amidst the hills of Wiltshire, surrounded by woodland and mature trees, stands the most significant prehistoric example of Megalithic culture, Stonehenge. Looking almost as it must have done more than 4000 years ago at the time of the New Stone Age and Bronze Age, here Man created a shrine for a deity dedicated to a religion based upon nature and sun worship. Like gates built by Titans, these gigantic stones take us back to the Dark Ages.

I was afloat on 11th May 2007 for one week and aiming to do the Warwickshire Ring. We arrived in the rain and more rain was predicted for a few days so we decided to go anti-clockwise to leave the lock flights until later in the week. This is the Saturday starting just below Napton J (at Napton Bridge) when we did the whole Upper Oxford Canal finishing at Hawkesbury Junction. This video only goes to Ansty as my battery ran out for the final 10 mins or so.The video was captured using a Ricoh R6 in interval mode taking a shot every 5 seconds, any slight gaps are in the battery changes.Notice how the day starts bright and then gets cloudy and a rain storm comes in. We started at 8am, stopped at Rugby at 1pm until 3pm to get supplies, have lunch, and wait for the rain to stop. We got to Ansty for 6pm and then Hawkesbury J shortly afterwards.8 hours cruising time represented here in 6m30s of time lapse.

GTR-DVD-1021 - Taj Mahal, India Islamic architecture's most beautiful building, the Taj Mahal, is located on the southern shore of the Jumna Rive close to Agra in Northern India. This mighty mausoleum was built on the orders of the Mogul King, Shah Jehan, for his favourite wife. Surrounding an inner core of stone, the Taj Mahal is mainly of brick construction encased in marble. The marble was transported from quarries about 300 km from Agra and in addition to its richly decorated, precious white marble, red sandstone was also used for its massive main gateway. Floral reliefs, tendrils and other carefully created stone works adorn the building's magnificent exterior. On its walls there are artistic images taken from the Koran and there are also non-Islamic decorations that were designed by 17th century architects. The stunning Persian motifs of blossom and plants consist partly of precious stones such as diamonds, garnet, sapphires and onyx. In 1629 the wife of the Indian Mogul, Shah Jehan, died at the birth of her 14th child. In her memory, her husband promised to build a mighty monument: the result was the Taj Mahal. It was built between 1630 and 1653 and its Persian character is due to its first architect, Isa Afandi, who originated from Iran. Its onion-like cupolas were a real architectural achievement of their day and the symmetry of the building is truly remarkable. A perfect example of Indo-Islamic architecture, today the Taj Mahal is India's most famous structure. GTR-DVD-1029 - In England, close to the village of Silbury Hill in the county of Wiltshire, a 5,000 year old monument rises from the ground. It is a hill that is almost 40m high and is Europe's largest artificial prehistoric earthwork, built around 2, 800 B.C. The grass covered limestone hill was created for ritual ceremonies and its rocks originated from a huge stone circle that dates back to a Megalithic culture that encompassed the village of Avebury in which ancient rituals were performed right up to the time of Christianity. The White Horses Of Wiltshire are located on several sites in the English county. They are large, white contours of horses that can be seen from far away in the undulating countryside. The 100m long horses consist of limestone and their origin dates back to the 11th century or perhaps even earlier as they are very similar to images found in Stone Age drawings. Scientists believe that the builders of Stonehenge, which is only some 25 km distant, were the same that also constructed Avebury, the so-called 'Beaker People'.
