VPG-DVD-107 - HAWAII The Hawaiian Islands are located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and form the 50th state of the USA. In the south east of the island of O'Ahu, Honolulu is a modern town and the starting point for most journeys. It also contains the Iolani Palace - once the residence of King David Kalakana - a magnificent Victorian structure in the centre of Honolulu and the only royal palace in the United States. In Pearl Harbour, a museum commemorates the events of the seventh of December 1941 when most of the American Pacific fleet was destroyed by the Japanese. In winter, the world's best surfers collect on Sunset Beach, attracted by spectacular waves, some of which reach as high as the tallest church steeples. On the island of Kaua'i, the Wailua is Hawaii's only navigable river and it flows through some of the exciting locations which were used for Jurassic Park, Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Blue Hawaii. Two volcanoes dominate the extraordinary island of Maui, which also features sandy beaches, green pastures, dense jungle and a bleak lunar-like landscape. Hawaii -- a paradise of Pacific islands!

VPG-DVD-167 - HONOLULU Honolulu Airport is world famous for the novel way in which it welcomes its visitors. A sweetly scented floral chain is placed around the neck of all those who arrive and the friendly smiles of the local people are irresistible. Normal routine is cast aside and dreams become reality. The Hawaiian Islands are located in the Pacific Ocean and are the 50th State of the United States of America. The island of Oahu is situated in the centre of the archipelago. The modern city of Honolulu is the capital of both Oahu and all the other islands and it is also the starting point of numerous excursions. King David Kalakana had the Iolani Palace built, a magnificent Victorian structure situated in the centre of Honolulu and the only royal palace in the USA. The Nuuanu Pali Valley is of great importance in Hawaiian history. It was there that a decisive battle took place when King Kamehameh arrived from Maui and triumphantly drove the troops of the O´Ahu chief into the mountains, a battle that gave rise to the political union of the Hawaiian Islands. Close to Honolulu, Pearl Harbour was the scene of a major military tragedy. During an unexpected attack practically the whole of the American Pacific fleet was bombed by the Japanese and destroyed. The attack on the U.S. naval base was the ultimate reason that the United states eventually took part in the Second World War. In winter the most dedicated surfers collect on Sunset Beach to experience the world's most sought-after waves some of which are as high as the tallest church steeples and between Kawela Bay and Haleiwa each winter the best surfers in the world meet for the Surfing World Championships. 'Aloha!' is Hawaii's magical word. It means 'Welcome', 'Good-Bye' and also 'Love'. Life is so simple in paradise!

OTT-DVD-139 - For many years the infamous Bridge On The River Kwai has attracted a great deal of tourists to the city of Kanchanaburi. The bridge owes its worldwide fame to a novel by French author Pierre Boulle and a distinguished film by David Lean. However, due to its natural beauty, the province, which is located around a hundred and thirty kilometres west of Bangkok, is also a popular holiday area. With the creation of the Death Railway in the Second World War the Japanese planned to establish an alternative supply route across South East Asia built by POW's and forced labourers from all over Asia. The bridge has been moved from its original location as originally the railway viaduct was situated four kilometres further north. Despite this the historic bridge on the River Kwai has lost nothing of its fascination and historic significance and its somewhat plain and unspectacular construction of steel and concrete is in stark contrast to its moving and dramatic history. The longer the construction work continued, the worse the situation grew for the totally exhausted POW's. The back-breaking work, continuous under nourishment, the outbreak of cholera and the daily torture by the Japanese, took its toll and thousands of men died. In 1945 the Japanese destroyed all the documents that related to the death of the POW's and forced labourers. However, it is estimated that around sixteen thousand allied soldiers and up to one hundred thousand forced labourers from each corner of Asia perished. The seven thousand gravestones of the POW's that lie within Kanchanaburi Cemetery and the legendary River Kwai are a tragic reminder of one of the saddest chapters in the history of Thailand.

It is an incredibly wild and beautiful corner of Western Australia. Broome was once the prosperous and bustling centre of the pearling industry. Broome stands on Roebuck Bay and is still a pearling town but not in the scale of years gone by.In its hey day there were some 350 pearling luggers employing 3,000 men working out of Broome.Divers went to depths of 27 meters and this resulted in many deaths. There was a predominant amount of Japanese divers and the Japanese Cemetery shows how they suffered. There are many signs of the Pearling background of Broome with abandoned Luggers and Museums. We take you to Gantheaume Point, where dinosaur's tracks are embedded in sandstone at the base of the cliffs and it is commonly believed they lived 130 million years ago. The tracks are visible only at a low spring tide. The essence of this destination is captured at Cable Beach, where the sands seem to go on forever and at certain times of the year the moon creates a stairway to heaven, a spectacular sight captured by our cameras. We bring the unique 'Sun Picture Theatre in the heart of Broome - an open air Picture Theatre and the Bird Observatory set amongst the mangroves where an abundance of Birdlife revel in the peaceful and tranquil setting. TOM-DVD-THREE - Bangkok Bound Bangkok Bound Volume 3In programme three we meet an exotic photographer, a street wise nun and a war veteran. Adrian is returning to the more notorious scene of this exotic destination. A thirty-three year old 'glamour' photographer, his mission is to persuade Thai women to model for him naked, to feed the growing British porn market for 'Asian babes'. "I like girls, that is the prime motivation. I can't imagine anything else I'd rather do - not even playing in a rock band or starring in a movie."Sister Joan works in conjunction with Father Brenan's orphanage. She wanders around the seedy areas of Pattya counseling street children and tries to talk them out of leading such dangerous lives. "The sheer number of sex tourists make this a dangerous place for children, even during the day."Fifty-seven year old Shirley's first ever trip to Thailand is an emotional pilgrimage. She lost her father in the Second World War when she was six months old. He died in a Japanese prisoner of war camp. Having recently been left money by her father's sister, Shirley has decided to spend the money fulfilling a dream she thought she would never be able to afford. The film crew follows Shirley to the cemetery, where her father's remains are. "I miss a father, you think of things that would have been very different if he'd been around."Thailand is a magnet for travellers. Each week 10,000 people travel from Britain to Bangkok - the gateway to Thailand. The country's beautiful tropical beaches are contrasted with a dark underbelly of sex tourism. This six part series Bangkok Bound, takes a closer look at the personal stories behind these journeys to reveal some startling and at times truly remarkable experiences.
