A few drops of rain in this region are enough to make the soil explode with life and transform the land into a vast undulating ocean of green palm trees and fruit-bearing cacti. Remote haciendas interrupt the savannah-like landscape with estates so vast that it's necessary to travel across them by motor vehicle. The Barranca Del Cobre is four times larger and ninety metres deeper than the Grand Canyon. Powerful torrents of water created the region's deep canyons and its igneous stones were subjected to powerful erosion thus creating bizarre rock formations. At a height of thirty-five metres the Cusárare Waterfall is an impressive sight as its magnificent crystal clear water plunges down into the deep abyss below. This part of Mexico located on the Tropic Of Cancer divides the country into two climatic zones of the same size: temperate and tropical. El Golfo De California and its contrasting deserts, arid mountain regions and lush vegetation is a wonderfully remote landscape whose unique beauty captures the imagination of all who experience it.

In Yangon the early morning is the best time to travel to the nearby city of Bago which was once the capital of the Second Burmese Realm. It was thought by Europeans to be the most magnificent city in the East, a fact highlighted by its many splendid monuments. The city of Yangon is like travelling back in time to the colonial days of British Rangoon and hopefully this fascinating city will continue to be a golden fairy tale behind a tantalising bamboo curtain!

Inspired by the Colosseum in Rome, an elegant structure of pink stone and glass, Canada Place, is located in the busy centre of the new harbour district and is also the city's most recent landmark. Close by is Harbour Centre, a modern skyscraper complex with a shopping centre and a Skylift to the top floor. A glass elevator transports visitors to a one hundred and sixty seven-metre high observation platform where the view across the city, harbour and bay is overwhelming. The exciting Skytrain is the city's most popular means of transport, an ultra-modern train built on posts that zig zags its way through the city. Each of the city's most important destinations are easily accessible and it has reduced the city's traffic problems considerably. For the World Exhibition of 1986, on the edge of Chinatown gardeners and craftsmen from Suzhou in China established Canada's first classical Chinese garden, the Doctor Sun Yat Sen Garden. Its ponds, bridges and small pavilions are similar to those in China, masterpieces of Far Eastern garden design. Everything in Vancouver is youthful, attractive and dynamic, a place in which Canadian politeness unites with the Pacific way of life!

With its many attractions and close proximity to Mexico, San Diego is an unforgettable city that's a very special kind of tourist metropolis!

VPG-DVD-205 - REYKJAVIK Reykjavik is Iceland`s gateway to the world and is one of the smallest metropolises on Earth. Just over a hundred thousand people live in this the northernmost of all cities that is sometimes referred to as Iceland's 'Smokey Bay'. The Hallgrims Kirkja is one of Reykjavik's main landmarks, a Neo Gothic church that was built between 1945 and 1986. It was named after a famous religious minister and poet of the 17th century, Hallgímur Pétursson. Both its design and large dimensions are impressive. Tjörnin is located in the centre of the city, a wonderful small lake surrounded by spacious parks and the new City Hall is also located there. Krists Kirkja is the city's main Catholic church and in 1989 the Pope preached within its walls marking the first visit of the Pontificate to Iceland. Narrow elegant bridges span across the splendid ponds of the Botanical Garden, a popular destination for the inhabitants of Reykjavik. However, small forests of conifers are the only real sign of nature on this remote and barren island. Chimneys are a rarity in Reykjavik. The majority of its houses are heated by geothermic water. Indeed, many of its pavements and streets are heated, a convenient asset that saves much money on snow clearance and makes life a lot easier for the local population. In Iceland the summer months are bright but in spring and autumn there are long periods when there is little daylight. July is the time of the famous midnight sun and thanks to the Gulf Stream the island enjoys a relatively temperate climate with cool summers and quite mild winters. Historic sights, hi-tech buildings and the charm of a small town. All this is Reykjavik, a remote metropolis built on fire and ice!

Nairobi is the country's most important and beautiful city and, with the finest temperate climate between Johannesburg and Cairo, is located at an altitude of almost seventeen hundred metres above sea level. The government district of City Square contains the Conference Centre and the Kanu Tower, the headquarters of government and the city's tallest building. Canon guard the main entrance to the National Museum that is situated on Museum Hill. A fascinating building that covers much of Kenya's culture and history. The museum provides an interesting insight into Pre-history as well as to various cultures and the country's flora and fauna. Directly in front of the city gates is the Nairobi National Park, the oldest of all Kenya's nature parks. Groups of ostriches can be seen bathing in the hot sand and a number of springboks stroll around elegantly between scattered rocks and trees that have been uprooted by elephants as zebra pasture close to the city's skyline. Nairobi is a metropolis in the 'Realm Of The Golden Sun' and is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating cities in the world.

VPG-DVD-204 - COSTA DEL SOL The Costa Del Sol is the name of the southern Mediterranean coast of Spain. In former times a variety of bumpy roads connected the region's sandy bays and remote fishing villages but today its modern roads cater for mass tourism. Almunecar is the main tourist centre on this section of the coast. Once a tranquil fishing village, it's now a busy coastal resort. A wide road separates clean, extensive beaches from huge apartment blocks that were constructed during an amazing transformation of the coastline. Torrox is an Andalusian mountain village that has so far managed to remain off the tourist trail and in which village life continues as it always has done. Since Phoenician times Malaga has been a busy trading port that was defended by the Castillo De Gibralforo that is located on the summit of a mountain. The large bay, with its protective mountain range in the north, enjoys a mild climate throughout the entire year. Around ten kilometres south of Malaga is the modern coastal resort of Torremolinos, since the 1950's a centre of mass tourism. The city developed at a wild pace and soon had all the attributes of a modern holiday resort, with innumerable huge skyscrapers, bars and restaurants and also endless sandy beaches and exciting entertainment facilities. Marbella is the prima donna of the Costa Del Sol and a marvellous rendezvous for the stars of both stage and screen plus a leisure resort for the international jet set. The yachting harbour of Puerto Banus is the true symbol of Marbella and its quay has a colourful variety of bars, cafés, restaurants and exquisite shops. The journey through fiery southern Spain ends with the Rock Of Gibraltar. Dreamy harbour towns cultural metropolises with a Moorish past and Christian buildings and white villages. The Costa Del Sol is full of history and magical atmosphere. The sun is just a bonus!

The impressive rock formations of the Valley Of Fire are the geological monuments of time immemorial, its deep canyons and caves far removed from civilisation. Here, isolation reigns supreme including silence and an infinity of calm. This is a realm of fantasy where it's possible to see countless fascinating images in the rock as the imagination runs riot and creates something new with each blink of the eye. The rocks are often between a hundred and two hundred metres high and during summer time the unyielding temperature reaches between 50° and 60° Celsius. Over the centuries, various rodents and reptiles have conquered this landscape including iguanas, lizards, rabbits as well as rattlesnakes and foxes, the roadrunner and the desert turtle. The fiery colours of the artistically weathered stone sculptures, rock domes and bridges continuously burn into the landscape. Some of the gigantic formations appear precarious and vulnerable and give the impression that they could collapse at any moment. In the early evening sun the Valley Of Fire is like a Martian landscape, the red colour of the rock being even brighter and more intense as the sky darkens dramatically, the clouds hanging darkly and mysteriously over the fire-like mountains. An exciting climax to this blazing spectacle of Nature.
