I was afloat on 11th May 2007 for one week and aiming to do the Warwickshire Ring. We arrived in the rain and more rain was predicted for a few days so we decided to go anti-clockwise to leave the lock flights until later in the week. This is the Saturday starting just below Napton J (at Napton Bridge) when we did the whole Upper Oxford Canal finishing at Hawkesbury Junction. This video only goes to Ansty as my battery ran out for the final 10 mins or so.The video was captured using a Ricoh R6 in interval mode taking a shot every 5 seconds, any slight gaps are in the battery changes.Notice how the day starts bright and then gets cloudy and a rain storm comes in. We started at 8am, stopped at Rugby at 1pm until 3pm to get supplies, have lunch, and wait for the rain to stop. We got to Ansty for 6pm and then Hawkesbury J shortly afterwards.8 hours cruising time represented here in 6m30s of time lapse.

SMP-DVD-23505 - Oregon Lighthouses The Silent SentinelsOregon lighthouses are the longest standing legacy of the state's maritime history. They have weathered more than a century of ferocious storms. Their lights continue to shine brightly, guiding mariners through treacherous waters. The men and women who tended the lights seldom received recognition for their efforts. Many times storms forced the keepers to turn the prisms by hand until the first rays of morning light when repairs could be made.Seven of Oregon's lighthouses are open to the public, thanks to the many volunteers, public agencies, Native American Indian Tribes and non-profit organizations who are preserving this heritage. We will also visit interpretive and discovery centers along the way. Our guided tour of Oregon lighthouses will give you only a glimpse into their historic past. The rest, is for you to discover.

MTW-DVD-102 - Situated in New York Harbour, the Statue of Liberty has become the proud symbol of the United States of America. The statue of the Goddess of Freedom carries the light of the spirit of enlightenment to the Free World. Alexander Gustave Eiffel, whose tower later made him famous, built the statue's ingenious iron frame construction supported by a central shaft. Around this framework a 2.4 millimetre thick copper coating was attached to the statue and it is mainly due to Eiffel's frame that the monument has withstood the bay's savage winter storms. On the 28th October 1886, North America's most important statue was inaugurated by President Grover Cleveland. The statue was the design of a young sculptor, Bartholdi, who had eagerly accepted the work due to the fact that the commission of his design of a large female statue for a lighthouse on the Suez Canal had not reached fruition. At first, the statue received little love and affection. Indeed, New Yorkers used the statue's unveiling ceremony for a protest demonstration! Since then, however, it has most assuredly conquered the hearts of those who have seen it and it has become a symbol of freedom for the whole of America.

MTW-DVD-110 - The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and hangs majestically like a giant gateway over San Francisco Bay. In the sunlight, the bridge really does look golden and when a sudden fog descends, the tips of her pillars rise supremely above the waterscape below. A hundred thousand tons of steel and almost 300,000 cubic metres of cement form the foundations which have protected the bridge from storm force winds of up to100 miles an hour. It was originally designed to take 3 million cars a year but in fact it is used by more than 45 million, and the numbers are increasing. To date, a billion vehicles have used this masterpiece of human invention. On 28th May 1937, the San Francisco Chronicle reported: "We got it wrong. The bridge which no-one was supposed to be able to build, no one approved and no one would use, now stands before you in all its glory." Amazing how the newspapers, even in those days, sometimes got it wrong!

GTR-DVD-1227 - Malta's past is reminiscent of the stormy sea waves that sometimes appear around the rock covered coast of this small yet remarkable island located in the southern Mediterranean. The Lower Barracca Gardens date back to British colonial times. In 1814 Malta became an official Colony of the British Crown just a few years after Napoleon's army had occupied the island. Following various wars, cruel sieges and brutal invasions the inhabitants of Malta decided to secure peace and order by becoming part of the British Empire. The glamour of the Teatro Manoel is only exceeded by the former Grand Master's Palace that is now the official seat of the President and also home of the Parliament of the Maltese Republic. Saint John's Co-Cathedral is one of the island's most prized cultural treasures. The magnificently equipped church that was built between 1573 and 1577 is regarded as being one of the most beautiful architectural creations of Gerolamo Cassar. Although the Maltese knights of Valletta have now been assigned to the history books their cultural heritage is still very much alive on this small yet fascinating Mediterranean island. Global Treasures - History's Most Protected Monuments - Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live today, and what we pass on to future generations. our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration. GTR-DVD-1157 - On top of a hill above the town of Patan is one of the most important and fascinating Buddhist settlements in Nepal, Swayambhunath. Numerous legends exist with regard to the construction of this sanctuary, the oldest written record of it discovered so far being one that dates back to the 5th century.Today it is accepted that most of the present construction of Swayambhunath was ordered by a king in the 17th century. In the course of time the monument was rebuilt several times as the upper part of the Stupa was frequently damaged by storm and earthquake. Today, galleries of prayer wheels surround the sanctuary and while the faithful walk around the Stupa they move the prayer mills in order to augment their prayers.Under the rule of Pratapa Malla it was not only numerous impressive buildings and religious works of art that were created as history records that the king was an instigator of many strange traditions and cults. In addition to the shrines that are dedicated to the four points of the compass, Pratapa Malla also ordered the construction of a subterranean building, 'The Hidden City'.The impressive Stupa of Swayambhunath sits high above the throngs below with timeless, peaceful and powerful grace like the eyes of a Buddha who sees all!Global Treasures - History's Most Protected Monuments - Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live today, and what we pass on to future generations. our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.
