VPG-DVD-155 - CAPE TOWN Located on the southern edge of Africa and lying at the foot of Table Mountain, the metropolis of Cape Town is certainly one of the world's most beautiful cities, an exciting combination of Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. In the park-lined Government Avenue and Queen Victoria Street there's a wonderful collection of well-restored Victorian houses and the Anglican St.Georges Cathedral is where Archbishop Desmond Tutu protested against Apartheid. Part of the historic harbour is the Victoria And Alfred Waterfront. In 1860, Prince Alfred ordered construction of a new harbour basin, followed by the Victoria Basin that contained two watchtowers. Today, the whole of the old port is an internationally-styled entertainment and shopping complex. The two large water tanks in the harbour's Two Ocean Aquarium contain around 3,000 examples of sea life from the Indian and Atlantic oceans. In the adjoining South African Maritime Museum there are examples of the city's historic ships, its fishing industry and details on the construction of its outstanding harbour. Robben Island is situated 11 km. off the coast and in the 16th century the Dutch used it as a prison. During apartheid, political prisoners were incarcerated there, the prison's most famous inmate having been Nelson Mandela who spent 18 years of his 28 year sentence on the island. After the closure of the prison, in 1997 the South African government opened both the island and its former prison to the public. Thus the face of Robben Island changed from being a place of terror and suppression to one of pilgrimage, a symbol of resistance and also a major tourist attraction! The Cape Of Good Hope is the southernmost tip of Africa and since1936 this section of the Cape Peninsula has been a nature reserve. Cape Town and its environs are completely different to the normal expectations of Africa. No desolate bush land reaching to the horizon and no life-threatening wild animals. But it's certainly another remarkable and beautiful dimension to South Africa's magnificent Garden Of Eden!

SHF-DVD-IRAQ - Inside Iraq The Untold StoriesJoin me as I travel Iraq discovering the untold stories about the lives of the Iraqi people and the US soldiers. As a freelance filmmaker, I will take you on a unique personal journey uncovering stories that go beyond the headlines and politics.Tour a children's landmine hospital Visit remote villages with medical aid workers Drop in on illegal gun markets Walk the streets of Baghdad Get a tour of an Abrams tank Meet the soldiers who are finding creative solutions Witness a fire fight with Iraqi insurgents Ride along on night patrols in search of terroristsBelow are media and university reviews for Inside Iraq: The Untold Stories. MEDIA REVIEWS Those who are strongly for or against the Iraq war won't find their positions unequivocally supported by this film. Which is what makes it worth seeing. The Portland Tribune Shiley's film is an incredible guided tour of the Iraq that has yet to be adequately portrayed in mainstream American media. The result is an emotionally complex film that provides perspective on a complex reality that the government has worked to simplify, and the media has done little to clarify. Willamette Week (Portland, OR)-Movie Review It's a journey worth taking, but better him than you. He poked into things that journalists and others don't usually stop to examine, and he emerged with a highly personal travelogue that sheds a light on a complex and volatile situation. The Oregonian Living Section Shiley deserves credit for going to Iraq twice by himself (both times for a month) and trying to get stories he believes are worth showing. San Francisco Chronicle Shiley captures quite a lot of intriguing footage - and makes an important point about just how out of control the situation in Iraq has gotten..." San Francisco Bay Guardian What an amazing, powerful film and presentation. In essence, you provided us with a comprehensive behind the scenes tour, no snap-shot news reports, no "approved" footage, no political speak press conferences, just the simple and unfortunate reality that for everyone involved war is hell.. University of Wisconsin Shiley's footage presented stories of survival amidst extreme strife, the human stories that are not seen for the very most part on the nightly news. "...well attended and compelling..." Purdue University I think the questions you raised last night are part of the conversation we should all be having, and I think it is really admirable that you did the work to help us to have it. Keep it up! Harvard Alumni Association I applaud you for undertaking this difficult and creative work. I think this film has a future as an important source of information for citizens who are confused about the US 'project' in Iraq. Reed College, Portland, OR

The museum's unique collection of jewellery contains rings once worn by high priests and also amulets that belonged to Ramses the Second. 7DY-DVD-101 - Egypt is a land of monumental temples, gigantic pyramids, the River Nile and the mysterious Sphinx: 5000 years of history.Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra's spell. Cairo is Africa's largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and tomb of Tutankamun.Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world's largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of 53,000 square metres - the height of a fifty storey skyscraper. In the middle of today's modern city of Luxor, known as the 'Capital City Of The Pharaohs', the Luxor Temple stretches along the eastern banks of the Nile and, not far away, the temple complex of Karnak and the Amun Temple.67 kilometres from Luxor, on the western bank of the Nile, lies the Temple Of Dendera, the most important place of worship for the love goddess, HATHOR, whose heavenly appearance was portrayed by the body of a cow. At Aswan, the landscape of the Nile is enchanting, but it is the stone temples of Abu Simbel that take one back to ancient Egypt, land of the Pharaohs, and archaeological paradise.
