Music: Rien de Rien -Edith Piaff, Funiculi Funicula -Luciano Pavarotti, Bizet's Carmen -Waldo de los Rios. Dad loved all these great pieces of music. Ten years ago, we embarked on a journey that would change our lives and our relationship. My father and I bonded man to man for the first time rather than as father and son. Three weeks on the road in a beat-up truck with incredible scenery around every curve, the midnight sun that never went down... Crossing the Arctic Circle on the Dempster Highway was the high point of the trip for me, and ever since that trip both me and my father remembered it as the trip of a lifetime, and the best trip that either of us had ever been on. In later years, I asked him if he'd like to do it again, and his enthusiasm seemed to be declining every time I brought it up. I think it was 2003 when I asked again. He said he'd need to fly into Whitehorse because he didn't want to drive all the way through BC again. By last year he just wasn't into it at all anymore. This year, and on this day I cherish the memories... I will take that trip again someday, but it just won't be the same with dear ol' DAd...Yukon

VPG-DVD-134 - LOS ANGELES Los Angeles is synonymous with Hollywood, and Beverly Hills is its famous suburb with neat parks and blossoming flower beds. There's also the Sidewalk of Fame, Mann's Chinese Theatre and Rodeo Drive, the most exclusive shopping mile in the world. Everything in Hollywood is different, including a cemetery of the famous. Even in the funeral hall with its larger-than-life religious figures it is as though it is all part of a fantastic film set. Universal Studios is the largest and most active film and television studio in the world as well as a popular family day out being one of the most successful amusement parks in the USA and its many famous film sets are instantly recognisable. Since its opening in1955, Disneyland has become a worldwide phenomenon. The world's original and longest surviving theme park provides an enchanting mix of shows, attractions and well known cartoon characters and the journey through Toontown on its bumpy tramway is a stimulating experience for both young and old. At weekends, those who want to see but, above all, be seen, make for Venice Beach. The sandy beach is relaxing and its many pavements are popular with joggers and roller skaters alike. Even by Los Angeles standards, the performers on Muscle Beach are quite outrageous and while some body-builders lift thousands of kilos, others shamelessly display their supreme egos by strutting like conceited peacocks! Built in 1908, Santa Monica Pier is reminiscent of the hazy lazy seaside resorts of the 1920's. Extending into the water some 300 metres, the pier's amusement park is constantly bursting with life, with its big wheel, swings and richly- decorated carousel. Once the most celebrated residential area of the rich and famous, today Sunset Boulevard is a busy main traffic artery. At night, when brash neon signs shine out their colourful animated messages, this famous boulevard still possesses a unique atmosphere. Los Angeles is the enormous multicultural city on America's West Coast in which film stars, earthquakes and joie de vivre are essential to life itself!

WTF-DVD-ERIE - "The Erie Canal"... a ditch that opened the nation! Filmed and produced by Fran & Brooke Reidelberger Scripted and narrated by Fran Reidelberger Thomas Jefferson called plans to build it "little short of madness". James Madison said it was "impractical at best". "It" is the Erie Canal in New York State: An engineering marvel in 1825, an economic juggernaut throughout the 19th Century, an increasingly popular recreational delight today. In this all new digital video production, filmmakers Fran and Brooke Reidelberger travel the canal system from Albany to Buffalo, sailing in the wake of history, enjoying the tranquil beauty, attending the festivals, visiting the old canal towns, and wondering what our country would be like if the canal had never been built. Aboard "Chicane", a 65 foot power boat, you will experience the canal and:· Take a whirlwind tour of Albany, New York state's bustling capital city. Visit "Uncle Sam's" grave and our nation's first school of engineering in Troy.· "Climb" the Waterford Five, the world's highest series of high lift locks. The lift is 169 feet.· Explore the Herkimer "diamond mine" and find your own 500 million-year-old crystals with a diamond-like shape and sparkle.· Sample real beer and root beer at F.X. Matt Brewery, New York's oldest, in Utica.· Watch and listen as school children about American Revolutionary War history at Ft. Stanwix in Rome.· Tour Rome where digging of the canal began in 1817 and visit the grave of Francis Bellamy, the man who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.· Travel the waterway aboard a mule-drawn packet boat at the Erie Canal Village near Rome.· Attend the Oz Fest and meet the Munchkins in Chittenango, home of L. Frank Baum, the man who wrote the "Wizard of Oz" stories.· Enjoy a weekend of summer fun at Sylvan Beach on Oneida Lake, part of today's Erie Canal.· Learn how the canal helped make Syracuse one of the world's premier salt producing centers. -- Take a dinner cruise and meet a "star-in-the-making" at Baldwinsville. Traveling aboard "Cayuga", a traditional canal boat, you will:· Enjoy incredible wild life in the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. · Visit the canal town of Palmyra, home to the largest collection of hand-woven coverlets in the U.S. and birthplace of the Mormon Religion.· Watch the world's most unusual bridge in operation in Fairport. It's listed in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" 16 times! · Tour Rochester, home to Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb and a host of educational and cultural attractions, including Eastman House and the Strong Museum. · See the church that George Pullman (of Pullman railroad car fame) built in honor of his parents in Albion. · Watch and listen as canal artist Arthur Barnes interprets canal life onto canvas in Medina.· Visit Lockport, site of the most difficult engineering and construction job on the Erie Canal. Lockport is also the birthplace of volleyball and the fire hydrant.· Experience Buffalo to learn about the city's personal connection with four U.S. presidents and the story behind "Buffalo Wings".· Admire the spirit and laugh with the wild and wacky "boat builders" who race for glory in the annual Tonawanda Canal Fest. · Along the way see an "upside down" bridge, a sloping lift bridge, a floating dam, and more!

Please note: the crew rearranged my home office to make it look like a survivalist's bunker. That's not what it normally looks like around here. The crew filmed me about 2 weeks after Hurricane Katrina at which time I had just recieved a cache of supplies and had them sitting in my kitchen. They took those supplies and moved them over to where I keep my books and papers, things you would normally expect from somebody in my line of work. The fact that I was wearing a green sweater when they came here only helped convey an atmosphere of "bunker-chic." -Matt http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net

I was afloat on 11th May 2007 for one week and aiming to do the Warwickshire Ring. We arrived in the rain and more rain was predicted for a few days so we decided to go anti-clockwise to leave the lock flights until later in the week. This is the Saturday starting just below Napton J (at Napton Bridge) when we did the whole Upper Oxford Canal finishing at Hawkesbury Junction. This video only goes to Ansty as my battery ran out for the final 10 mins or so.The video was captured using a Ricoh R6 in interval mode taking a shot every 5 seconds, any slight gaps are in the battery changes.Notice how the day starts bright and then gets cloudy and a rain storm comes in. We started at 8am, stopped at Rugby at 1pm until 3pm to get supplies, have lunch, and wait for the rain to stop. We got to Ansty for 6pm and then Hawkesbury J shortly afterwards.8 hours cruising time represented here in 6m30s of time lapse.
