Nature Parks EVERGLADES Florida || NPM-DVD-105 - Nature Parks EVERGLADES FloridaThe Everglades Nature Park is located in the far South East of Florida and covers an area of around 3,500 square kilometres. Beyond the protection of the park, the neighbouring swamps are a major fascination of this region. The textures of the landscape are both rugged and soft and its infinite waterways and riverbanks conjure up a strong sense of adventure. There are alligators, racoons, pelicans, heron, ibis, and two hundred and seventy-five species of fish including the manatis - a docile sea cow that weighs well over a ton - as well as more than four hundred species of bird. There's a replica of an original Miccosukee Indian village that has been transformed into an historical museum and the tiny settlement also contains a variety of well-stocked shops with an array of traditionally crafted Indian products. An unusual vehicle that seems to be related to a tractor, but a more elevated version, is an ideal way to journey through the thick mud of the swamp, passing racoons and even alligators along the way. Numerous legends surround these mysterious, natural swamps, and some of the faces of its natural inhabitants - alligators, racoons and birdlife - reflect the stories and history of this unique, highly atmospheric and fascinating nature park.

Vista Point ANDALUSIA Spain || VPG-DVD-183 - ANDALUSIA Andalusia in southern Spain is a fantasy land situated between Europe and Africa. In Algarrobo, a white village close to the coast, time seems to have stood still. A place of both inspiration and contemplation. Since Phoenician times the earlier 'Malaca' was a busy trading port that was defended by the Castillo De Gibralforo. The Cathedral, also known as 'La Manquita', symbolises a catholic victory on the former site of a mosque. On the edge of the city centre is the Moorish fortress of Alcazaba that was once a fortified residence on the hills of Castillo. The second largest city in Andalusia also became known as the birthplace of its famous son, world famous artist Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Since the 1950's the modern coastal resort of Torremolinos has attracted mass tourism with a numerous variety of huge hotel skyscrapers, bars and restaurants. In the hilly inland area of the Costa Del Sol is the pretty white mountain village of Mijas. A small hilltop bullfight arena shines bright white along with the houses of the surrounding area. Marbella, the prima donna of the Costa Del Sol, serves as a rendezvous for the stars of stage and screen and a leisure resort for the international jet set. Another short excursion into the mountains near the coast leads to Casares, a sleepy mountain village crowned by the ruins of a Moorish Castle. During the Roman Carthaginian Wars Cadiz played an important role as a trading centre. After the Moors, came the Normans and in 1262, the city fell into the hands of the Christian king, Alfonso. Dreamy harbour towns, cultural metropolises with a Moorish past, Christian buildings and white villages. Beauty in the Garden Of Eden -- that's Andalusia!

Terra Mystica GRAND CANYON U.S.A. || TMT-DVD-112 - GRAND CANYON Formed at the point where the Colorado River breaks through the mountains of the American West, the 1800 metre deep Grand Canyon is endowed with a wealth of natural forms and shapes which have made it inevitable that it would have a colourful and important role to play within the myths of creation of the region's indigenous inhabitants. The Native American Indians chose it as their 'Happy Hunting Grounds' in which man's soul lives on after death. Myth and legend tell of how a giant buffalo ripped open the earth with its horns forcing it upwards toward heaven. This is the kingdom of 'Coyote', creator of the world, who is answerable only to the God Manitou. The Grand Canyon is fact, fiction, legend and myth...a geographical wonder of the worlds of both fantasy and reality.

Vista Point KRETA Greece Crete || VPG-DVD-115 - KRETA Crete is an island of light, the 'cradle of Zeus', with sun-drenched coastlines, picturesque villages and majestic mountains. No wonder that even the gods felt comfortable in this wonderful region of Greece. Heraklion is the capital of the largest and most southerly Greek islands, on which a highly developed culture has existed for 4000 years. The Venetians built massive fortresses to defend the island against the Turks The Gortys Ruins are reminders of the moving history of an old town that was prosperous in the 5th century B.C. when Gortys became the most powerful town of the Messara Plain and throughout the olive groves between the hills can be found the scattered remnants of its past cultural riches. With its beautiful sandy beaches, Matala is a popular coastal resort to which many come simply to experience the glorious sunsets in addition to the rich archaeological discoveries of the Phaistos Palace. Agia Galini is a quiet fishing village that, during the summer months, is a lively bathing resort on Crete's south coast. However, it has managed to maintain its original atmosphere with fishing boats in the harbour and crystal clear water lapping the shoreline, plus the allure of its tavernas and restaurants. The precipitous rocky coastline of Agia Roumeli is also the starting point of the Samaria Gorge that is regarded as the largest in Europe. Eighteen kilometres long and in places up to a hundred and fifty kilometres wide, the gorge stretches from the Libyan Sea right up to the heights of Lefka Ori. Picturesque harbours, ancient treasures, lost legends and Greek hospitality: who could possibly ask for more?

Global Treasures Hallstatt Austria || GTR-DVD-1096 - Hallstatt is located on the shores of a sleepy Austrian lake, surrounded by high hills and the Dachstein Mountain Range. Similar to a fjord, Hallstatt Lake extends in front of the picturesque village that was one of the earliest and most unique settlements in this region. Due to the early discovery of large salt deposits in the surrounding mountains, the village has a proud history that dates back a thousand years and archaeology has revealed that this area was inhabited from around five thousand years B.C. Long before Christianity came to Salzkammergut and prior to any churches being built, an independent prehistoric culture evolved. The village contains a rich variety of historic buildings and its churches contain precious works of art such as a Late Gothic altar created by Leonhard Astl. The old marketplace and fountain is crowned by a trinity column that dates back to 1744. The welcoming facades of the dwellings have graced this atmospheric village since the 16th century and the market probably dates back to the 14th century. In 1891 Lake Street played a vital role for the village's busy commercial traffic and the impressive Countryside and Pre-History Museum displays the history of salt mining in the area and its importance to the village. In 1846 the Salinen civil servant, Johann Georg Ramsauer, made a sensational discovery when he discovered a prehistoric burial ground in the village. During seventeen years of excavation a total of twenty thousand objects were discovered in nine hundred and eighty graves. These discoveries subsequently led to the establishment of Hallstatt's intriguing and fascinating culture. Terra Mystica Angkor || TMT-DVD-121 - ANGKOR Just as the mighty roots and branches of the trees entwine themselves around Cambodia's historic ruins of Angkor, there are also many myths and legends that circulate around the ancient kingdom of Kambuja that for centuries dominated huge areas of South East Asia. Angkor Wat is a temple complex of monumental proportion. Measuring a thousand by eight hundred metres it is not only the largest sanctuary of the ancient Khmer realm but also the largest sacred building in the world. Monumental stone figures announce the last great capital of the ancient realm of Kambuja, the legendary Angkor Thom that was built in around 1200 A.D. The nine square kilometre metropolis is the most well-preserved example of Angkorian city architecture. The ancient Khmer temple of Banteay Srei is thought to possess magical powers. Demons guard the entrance to this sanctuary that was discovered in 1914 by a French lieutenant. It was not only plundering by the Siamese that damaged Angkor's majestic temple complex and its unique works of art but also the elements, as well as the tropical vegetation. Today it is the atmospheric ruins that give the old temples of the Khmer their magical allure.

Global Treasures HÔI AN Vietnam || GTR-DVD-1152 - Today it is difficult to believe that three hundred years ago the tiny dreamy harbour of Hoi An was one of the most important seaports in Vietnam. Now only small fishing boats lie at anchor in the harbour yet in former times Hoi An experienced a flourishing trade with Europe. Whether on the riverbanks of the Thu Bon, the narrow streets or the fascinating shops, Hoi An has retained the colourful atmosphere of bygone times. Life continued here as normal until in the early 1990's the tourist industry began to develop in Vietnam. The city's new found prosperity has not yet reached the entire city but it is reflected in some of its buildings. Many of the city's meeting halls, temples and homes are of typical Chinese design. Both the Quan Am Temple and the Quang-Cong Temple date back to the 17th century. Toward the end of the 17th century an increasing number of Chinese merchants settled in the city and this gave rise to the construction of several splendid meeting halls. Business relationships were cultivated in these traditional communal buildings and new friendships made, information exchanged and ancestors and gods worshipped. Once again the town is beginning to prosper and the historic ambience of this intriguing city may well mark a new beginning to the inhabitants of Hoi An. Terra Mystica DELPHI Greece || TMT-DVD-106 - DELPHI Delphi was home to the Amphictyonic League, the most important of the Greek city states, and was also the location of the Pythian Games. Two eagles dispatched by Zeus from the end of the world met at the foot of Mount Parnassus in Delphi, thus creating the 'omphalos' or 'navel of the world'. It was hoped that the priestess attendant at the site, Pythia, would impart the will of God which she expressed through her 'raging mouth', in ecstasy.
