ABOUT: Music: Rien de Rien -Edith Piaff, Funiculi Funicula -Luciano Pavarotti, Bizet's Carmen -Waldo de los Rios. Dad loved all these great pieces of music. Ten years ago, we embarked on a journey that would change our lives and our relationship. My father and I bonded man to man for the first time rather than as father and son. Three weeks on the road in a beat-up truck with incredible scenery around every curve, the midnight sun that never went down... Crossing the Arctic Circle on the Dempster Highway was the high point of the trip for me, and ever since that trip both me and my father remembered it as the trip of a lifetime, and the best trip that either of us had ever been on. In later years, I asked him if he'd like to do it again, and his enthusiasm seemed to be declining every time I brought it up. I think it was 2003 when I asked again. He said he'd need to fly into Whitehorse because he didn't want to drive all the way through BC again. By last year he just wasn't into it at all anymore. This year, and on this day I cherish the memories... I will take that trip again someday, but it just won't be the same with dear ol' DAd...Yukon
